MODEL CALL:
I’m feeling called to create in a way that wouldn’t be entirely appropriate for my current client work. I’d love to document in film someone’s birth who is having a Homebirth or free birth. This would be at a heavily discounted rate and I’d need permission to share. I’m looking at exploring new styles of video and would be honoured if anyone would allow me to explore creativity in their birth space. This is only open to home birth clients due to privacy of midwives in hospitals. (But also please check with your Homebirth midwives first too.) it’s notoriously simpler to film home births.

This model call would be $1500 (more than 50% off my regular birth pricing) and would require multiple sessions, audio recording, drone footage, birth documentation and perhaps more.

If you are open to letting me explore in story telling, post production and get an incredibly unique birth story, please DM me ❤️ I only have one available and ideally you’d be due asap 😜 I don’t want it to overlap with BPOTY or Christmas.

“When do you need a commercial license?”

Just a gentle educational post on when it’s appropriate to share and tag the photographer and when you’d need a commercial license to use images.

If you are sharing the work of an artist for the simple fact of wanting others to see how amazing it is, a simple tag in the photo and @ in the description is totally appropriate.

If you are sharing the image and in the description marketing your product or trying to sell something, you need a commercial license.

Why?

Non-professional images do not stop scrollers the same way a crispy, clear, post produced image does. You’re using that professional image and not your phone image because you intuitively and subconsciously know this.

If you need to put any kind of copy / text / graphic with the image and alter it- you need a commercial license and to check with the original photographer if the context is appropriate. You purchased usage rights- not copyright.

I don’t think anyone is maliciously trying to use images, but many just simply don’t know when it’s appropriate to seek one out and when it’s appropriate to credit and tag.

If images are going on your website, product store, or anything related to marketing a product or course- you need a commercial license. Photographers are usually more than happy to offer a reasonable commercial license at an affordable price. Now if you’re a huge brand, with huge reach, that price increases, however small local businesses, a small fee is perfect simply to thank the artist for their work.

I hope this helps! ✨

“My parter will take photos.”

This is an image my best friend took of our 5th and final baby. If I had allowed my parter to disconnect himself from the birth space to take photos I would have missed this moment. The very first moment I pulled our boy up to my chest. The first moment his finger touched Lennox’s finger on my shoulder. We didn’t even know what the s*x of the baby was yet. His face. My face. Our faces.

I’m not even talking about phone quality. (Which by the way phones now a days aren’t terrible quality 🤪) I’m talking about moments never even being created.

It’s an investment, sure, but priceless in so many ways ✨

Sometimes, my camera struggles in low light, even with a flash (yes I know, crazy 🤪)
But I don’t hate it. Sometimes, I edit them and give them to clients if I feel it’s appropriate. Sometimes it feels like an actual accurate representation of what birth was in that moment. In this instance- A little fuzzy, slightly off kilter, and an attempt to re-centre after birth.

Sometimes, the least perfect images are the best representation of what birth is ✨
