A gorgeous young Black-Flanked Rock Wallaby traverses the rocky terrain of Cape Range National Park. This little fluff ball is part of a small population who call the gorges of the park home, on this particular day we were lucky to spot a couple but this individual was by far the bravest.

Located just south of Exmouth on the Ningaloo Coast the Cape Range National Park is definitely worth a visit. Home to many native animals and birds as well as featuring some spectacular walks, certainly add the park onto your holiday itinerary!

This Elegant Sea Snake made for a very welcome surprise guest whilst on a beach snorkel in Mid West WA.

Towards the end of a pleasant but rather uneventful session my partner called out “sea snake!” And I swam over to find this beauty who was around 2m long! I was able to follow along while watching it dive down and search through the sea grass and w**d for something to nibble on. The encounter made it quite the morning.

Joined by a pack of prowling predators on a morning snorkel in the shallows of the coral cays known as Low Isles off Port Douglas QLD.

The Reef Sharks and Giant Trevally pictured were also accompanied by some larger Lemon Sharks and other predatory fish all chasing schooling baitfish in the shoreline. Quite fun getting amongst all the action especially as the water was waist deep at best so everything felt amplified!

It’s always a great day on the water when you’re joined by dolphins, but when a pod of Oceanic Bottlenose are the stars it’s pretty special!

Oceanic Bottlenose are a different species than most people encounter playing in the shallower coastal waters. These guys are not only a little bigger and more powerful but can also look pretty gnarly with scars and scrapes, as you can see on this individual.

The Oceanic Bottlenose pods often associate with other species in New Zealand waters where this guy was found. They are often sighted with pods of Psuedo Orca (False Killer Whales) and even Pilot Whales. Surging through the ocean in a pod of mixed species can make for quite the show!

A nervous Hawksbill Turtle scoots over the wave swept sea floor at Red Bluff.

Red Bluff is typically visited by campers for its awesome surf, hence the reason for the rather Barron looking sea floor in this image. However the surf spot sits at the southern edge of the Ningaloo Reef so is still frequented by tropical marine life.

During this visit to the popular campsite there was next to no swell which meant we were able to get right up close to the rocky reef at the cliff base. With surfing out of the question we were also lucky enough to nearly have the whole bay to ourselves!

Although Whitehaven Beach is a popular destination among tourists to catch some rays, usually it’s the kind that requires a little sunscreen ☀️

For those who venture beyond the beautiful sandy beach there are many wildlife surprises like this Cowtail Stingray. In this image you can see her sitting through the sand for a tasty little snack.

Getting creative on a fun little beach shoot with the lovely

After playing on the beach and amongst the palms safe to say we were both feeling quite tropical.

A young Bronze Whaler cruises above the sea grass beds with a Remora stuck firmly to its side.

Remora are often found attached to large marine animals such as sharks, rays, turtles and even the occasional diver! They hold on tight by using a specially evolved sucking pad on the top of their head. Remora are not considered parasites but more of a symbiotic relationship as along with nibbling on scraps from their host they will often eat any parasites also.

Some of the most playful and curious creatures you’ll meet in the ocean are New Zealand Fur Seals.

They seem to have quite the life! Either resting in the warm sunshine, spinning and dancing through the water, or snacking on some tasty seafood.

Though they are incredible to watch in the water, caution and respect is always advised when encountering these guys as they are still wild animals and we as people are entering their home space.
