Since our recent post showing photos of the shallowness of the bar of Round Hill Creek at low tide, there has continued to be several boat groundings. In one very traumatic incident, a yacht hit the sandbar and knocked off its keels and all but sank. Now, only a few days later, another yacht has run aground attempting to enter the creek in the dark.. Luckily, Marine Rescue Queensland were able to come to the rescue to free the yacht and tow it to safety. With the recent tragic loss of Ballina rescue members on everyone's minds, Dry Dock and the broader community would like to thank our local MRQ members for their service and sacrifice to be there to help our boaties in need.

1770 Round Hill Creek Entrance. 18th April 2026. New moon, 0.2m very low tide. The water is extremely shallow at low tide.
We watched about 8 boats get stuck in sand as they tried to enter at low tide, as shown in some of these photos. We have also included a thermal image of some stuck boats, as they attempt to head towards the entrance navigation buoys which are shown in the distance.

Here are some updated photos of the 1770 (Round Hill Creek) entrance, taken on Monday 2nd February 2026. 0.3m low tide. It appears that there is another sandbar forming in the outlet towards Eurimbula. We hope these photos are helping boaties to make informed decisions when entering and leaving Round Hill Creek. Follow our page for regular updates.

Attention boaties...here's an updated photo of the 1770 bar (Round Hill Creek entrance) at low tide on 6th December 2025. Two days after full moon. Please take note of how shallow the water has become. Many boats are still grounding on their way back into the creek.
