This is a Namib sand lizard (genus Meroles), one of the dune specialists of the Namib Desert — and everything about this body is built for sand.

They are known for diving straight into sand to escape both heat and predators, sometimes vibrating their whole body to "swim" beneath the surface in seconds- something I witnessed soon after capturing this shot!! 📍 Namib Desert, Namibia

An oldie but a goodie from my favourite place in the world and from one of my best trips ever 🇨🇦

I learnt that bears don't randomly lunge, they're reading the water for the ripple and shadow of a moving fish before committing. I was watching both the water and the bear to try and catch the moment before it happened.

Not an owl — a frogmouth, and one of the best camouflage tricks in the bush. By day they freeze bolt-upright with eyes narrowed to slits, mimicking a broken branch stub.

I walked straight past these before realizing they were even there. Look for oddly-shaped "stumps" at eye level in eucalypts around dawn and dusk. 📍Clontarf, QLD.

Snout down, spines up — this one was working through the leaf litter sensing for ants and termites through electroreceptors in that beak, not by sight or smell.

I had to make sure to stay still and quiet around this guy. If you’re really quiet they often keep foraging right past you; move too fast and they'll dig straight in into the dirt! 📍 Agnes Water, QLD

One of my absolute favourite Aussie locals !! People love to hate them (they have a habit of messing up people’s gardens) but I think these guys are really amazing.

Male brushturkeys spend months raking together leaf litter and mulch into huge compost heaps, then use their beak (some of the most sensitive skin sensors of any bird) to test the internal temperature and adjust the mound to keep it within a couple of degrees of variation.

They don't sit on eggs at all — the decomposing litter does the incubating.

Seeing one perched up like this usually means it was mid-inspection, checking or reworking the pile before disappearing back into it. He was busy!

Work has been keeping me pretty occupied these last few months so I haven’t done much photography at all…or even been out much in nature 🌿 But it’s always fun to look back at past trips like this day out in a national park in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 These cheeky monkeys were trying to sn**ch people’s bags from inside the safari vehicles 😂😂😂 Causing absolute chaos.
