Such an amazing team to be apart of! 🩵
Next up is our resident photographer turned absolute legend
Alex’s journey with us started back in 2017 at the very first OPL event. She reached out with a simple message asking if we needed a photographer willing to work that first event for free just to prove herself.
She poured her heart into every shot, capturing the action and the promo images that defined our future.
Fast forward to 2026, and it’s hard to imagine an event running without her.
If you’ve been to one of our shows, you’ve definitely seen her in action. She’s become so popular that we’ve actually had to set up a priority listing for her photos just to keep her inbox from exploding! 😂
But there is so much more to Alex than just what happens behind the lens:
• The Grind: The endless hours of editing to make sure every shot is perfect for you guys.
• The Hustle: Delivering meals to our officials stationed across the track.
• The Multitasking: Waving flags and reporting track incidents, all while never missing a shot.
• The Vibe: Doing it all with a smile that genuinely lights up the room.
Alex brings the "spark" to our team and, quite frankly, keeps us all in line especially when the lads get themselves into trouble around the track.
We’d be completely lost without her.
Name: Alex Gorecki
Role: Photographer, Event Admin, & Multi-Disciplinary Official
Experience: A fixture in the SA scene, Alex has been trackside for every Openpitlane Australia event since 2017. Her resume spans the full spectrum of motorsport, from the precision of F1 in Melbourne and three consecutive years at World Time Attack Challenge, to Super Trucks and local door-to-door racing. Whether she’s behind the lens for a private shoot, managing race admin, or jumping onto the flags, Alex is the ultimate "all-rounder" who ensures the show goes on.
1. What was the "spark" moment that first drew you to motorsport? Eg movie, event, interaction
From the Holden factory to the Mallala tarmac, cars have always been my life. My dad and I bonded over the roar of V8s at the Clipsal 500, but I never imagined I’d be the one behind the wheel. After supporting my partner’s racing journey, I finally got my turn on track as a birthday gift. That experience at Mallala was the ultimate catalyst; it led to me buying my own race car and proving myself on the podium in my first year. Now, motorsport isn’t just something I watch it’s something I live
2. Mallala has a legendary reputation in South Australia. What is it about the atmosphere at a Time Attack event that makes it feel different from a standard track day?
Mallala is the true home of grassroots motorsport in SA, it’s the OG. I still remember the classic SA Time Attack days run by the MGEC club, and that same spirit lives on. Unlike a standard track day, a Time Attack event is a total sensory overload: the screaming engines, the smell of race fuel, and the sight of glowing rotors under the lights. There’s nothing like sitting on a packed hill, surrounded by people cheering at the top of their lungs as drivers push for that one perfect lap
3. Time Attack is all about that one "perfect lap." From your perspective “, what draws the crowd to these events?
It’s the suspense. Unlike the usual door-to-door series, Time Attack is a specialized battle against the clock. The absolute highlight for the fans is definitely the final shootout under the lights watching the fastest cars on track giving it everything for that one perfect lap is an incredible experience
4. If you could "teleport" any iconic motorsport build from anywhere in the world to the Mallala tarmac for one night, what car would it be and why?
It would have to be the StanceWorks K24-swapped Ferrari 308 GTBi. Seeing that car in person at the 2023 World Time Attack Challenge in Sydney was a massive highlight for me. Mike Burroughs’ vision for that build is incredible, and I’d love to see how that high-revving K-series sounds screaming down the main straight at Mallala!
5. We know volunteering isn’t just standing around it’s hard work. What is one thing about your specific role that the average spectator might not realize is crucial to making the event run smoothly?
People might think I’m just there for the photos, but I’m usually running around like a 'headless chicken' making sure the wheels don’t fall off! We’re a small but mighty team, which means I’m doing everything from flagging and sign on to checking that our fire and medical teams are looked after. It’s that unseen hustle that makes us a family rather than just a staff. We work together so seamlessly that the spectators never see the gaps they just see a great event.
6. What is your most memorable moment in motorsport ?
The highlight of our career has to be the 2023 World Time Attack Challenge. It took years of dedication and sacrifice to get there, but seeing my partner compete in Sydney made it all worth it. Being part of that event was a shared victory for both of us and a true 'we made it' moment.
7. For someone sitting on the sidelines thinking about getting involved, what would you say is the biggest hurdle preventing them getting on track ?
The biggest barrier? Overthinking the start. Many potential drivers worry about "fitting in" or being fast enough right away. We’re here to tell you: just ask! Whether you’re curious about track days, licensing, or car prep, we’ll help you find the right entry point for your budget and goals. We were all rookies once, and we’re ready to help you take that first turn.
