To celebrate, SteamRanger ran a special Brill-iant Day Out service with photo stops.

Having already done the same service last Saturday, 1st of August, 2026, we decided to follow today’s actual centenary day from the lineside.

Tough work for the crew on Pichi Richi Railway’s Explorer over the July School Holidays as W22 loses her feet at Curve 27 while working uphill in heavy rain.

Latest update on the South Australian Railways Z Class 4-4-0 new build project being constructed for future use on the Pichi Richi Railway in Quorn, SA.

Z199 Boiler update:
28/7/26

While the boiler design verification is ongoing, work has continued in the workshop setting up for the construction along with amassing tooling to make construction easier.

A set of rollers has been constructed to allow the boiler to be rotated into any position for work and welding to occur.

Thanks to Plasma Art Adelaide and APS for their assistance with cutting plate required for the rollers and jigs.

Rest easy Bernie!
A lovely video by our friend and subscriber of the channel, Rheilffordd, in memory of the late train driver and streamliner enthusiast, Mr Bernie Baker.

Although, I never got to meet the legendary man himself, he’ll always have my admiration and respect first and foremost.

Filmed between May and June 2026, we see the last of the SSR Boral Trains operating. In mid July 2026, Boral Cement terminated its contract with SSR (Southern Shorthaul Railroad), bringing an end to SSR's operation of all Boral trains, including the carriage of bulk cement, limestone, and clinker for cement production.

When we filmed the trains, the majority of these services used EMD power, including those that have been reactivated since 2018/19, which include CLP and CLF streamliner locomotives, retained ex. Victorian Railways C Class locomotives, and of course a pair of South Aussie-built EMD RL Class locomotives.

A night at Quorn Loco on the Pichi Richi Railway!

Awaiting its boiler, the almost complete new-build South Australian Railways 4-4-0 Z Class number 199 sits in Road 3 of the Quorn Workshops on a cold July night in 2026.

This month on July 15, Caleb celebrates eleven years as a proud volunteer on this spectacular narrow gauge railway in the gorgeous Southern Flinders Ranges of South Australia.
