Let’s nail that petal throw!

What ya throwing? Biodegradable confetti is the most visually stunning, fresh rose petals are also amazing. The biodegradable stuff isn’t allowed in some places and it can get sticky.

Bubbles are also a nice alternative if your venue has strict restrictions but you’ll need a tonne of them for the look to be effective.

Dried rose petals can also be ok, they’re a bit bitzier and you can get little crumbs in your hair and down your dress so it’s lower on my list.

Avoid cutting up eucalyptus leaves, this is a free option that gained popularity but the leaves are sharp and get stuck in hair and is difficult to remove, also very scratchy.

Next best thing is your celebrants instructions to your guests. Throwing them up high and not at your faces is the best effect, and hand throwing is the best method rather than trying to jettison out of a cone (side note, ditch the cones altogether, someone’s gonna throw one at you and you don’t need them, a basket of petals works fine).

ENJOY THE MONENT! The happier you guys look the better your photos will turn out, guys especially love to try and catch petals in their mouths, and some people shield away from the flying petals, lap up the moment and enjoy it - no fear!!

Confetti canons are a great addition.

You don’t have to do this at the end of your ceremony, you can do it at the entry to your reception, during your first dance, during your exit or even during your photoshoot. Make it yours!

Add a kiss or a dip, this has grown in popularity the last few years, I don’t mind it 😍

Remember to save for later - and follow if you want to see more.

If you want intimate moments to feel more intimate and expect reactions that are truly unfiltered then you need to be mindful of how many people are in your media team and who is allowed to be present. More phones, more cameras and more eyeballs always get you one step closer to a more filtered performative reaction. The bride in this clip says “you could have been more excited” I don’t think for a second he wasn’t excited to see his bride, I think the expectations and self consciousness from 4 people filming and capturing the moment lead him to filter or reduce his response.

In this video you can see at least two other people recording on their phones, there’s the person capturing this video plus you can bet there’s a photographer nearby. And those are just the people we can see. 4 spectators at least with eyeballs and devices on this moment.

It’s every wedding photographers WORST NIGHTMARE 💀

While shooting a wedding ceremony my camera threw up an error message, I wasn’t able to fix it there and then and as I would find out later the camera wouldn’t be operable without a complete replacement of the motherboard.

But this wasn’t a huge problem for more than a few seconds because I had a backup camera at the ready.

On this occasion I was second shooting video so Jessie also had two other video angles covered while I grabbed my second camera and kept on shooting. If I was on photography I’d have a second camera hanging from my shoulder, immediately available within half a second.

If you’re a beginner or starting out in weddings, you don’t get a second chance, you need redundancies and backups, always assume the worst will happen - because sometimes it does!

Lasers and cameras do not play together. Did you know lasers can damage camera sensors irreparably? If you do choose to have them or your dj/entertainment chooses to use them, it may impact how and what your wedding photographer or videographer can capture.

While there’s some debate amongst dj’s and photographers as to whether these lasers are powerful enough to do the damage, I’m not really willing to bet a $3-$4k camera on it. There are heaps of videos on the interwebs showing camera sensors being struck by lasers and damaging the sensor.

If you’re a dj and I ask you to turn your lasers off, or cover the emitter, I’m truly not trying to be an a$$hole, I’m just trying to protect my gear, all the other lights are totally fine.

What was more puzzling on this occasion was where the dj agreed to turn the lasers off, but then switched them back on 20min later. To his credit he turned them off again when asked again though.

It’s a tough call, they’re just so different 🫠

Currently making my way through Hannah and Toms final gallery and making the tough choices 😂

Have you heard of blue hour? It’s my favourite time of day for a photoshoot. I’m almost certain by now you’ve heard of golden hour. The hour before sunset, when the gorgeous streaky light hits, the sunlight comes in sideways and you can get some really gorgeous effects, super flattering light loved by photographers the world over.

Well not many people strategise their photoshoots to also include blue hour, which hits after the sun goes down. The sun keeps lighting up the sky, but in a very flattering way, the entire sky becomes one huge soft box, throwing soft light across everything, shadows basically disappear and the aesthetic is almost creamy and smooth. It’s absolutely gorgeous and I always try and make sure our last light photoshoots contain about 10minutes of golden hour, and 15-20minutes of blue hour.

What do you think? Had you heard of it? Will you or do you use it? Which do you prefer?

Did you guys realise this as kids? Or were you like me?

I didn’t realise superman was flying faster than light around the earth therefore causing time to reverse.

I always thought he was flying soooo fast and putting the brakes on the earth, then reversing its motion. I had no idea why simply pulling the earth backward would cause time to reverse, or why no one anywhere didn’t feel the cataclysmic effects of the earth coming to a sudden stop lol!

If you’re not too sure about “posing” on your wedding day I’m here to help! Here’s 6 poses literally everyone can do which are super simple and look great, so don’t worry, you’re leaving the wedding with at least a handful of great photos, but in reality, probably a lot more!!

My photoshoots are all about getting you interacting in a natural way using simple activity based prompts or poses like this and then building on them.

Save this and send to your partner before the wedding day 🤍

Before you accept the $ find out if there are strings attached!

At first it might appear as generosity, mum and dad want to help contribute to ease the financial burden of a wedding. But so many times I’ve seen that develop into the parents using their contribution as leverage to have things their way (which might not also be your way).

I’ve seen parents demand certain vendors that they choose be hired, certain friends or family members or other guests be invited, and alll kinds of other demands or conditions.

It’s best you find out what they want before you accept as your day with or without the $ and with or without their conditions can mean you’re having a very different wedding than you may be picturing.
