The term ‘object permanence’ is used to describe a child’s ability to understand that objects continue to exist, even though they can no longer be seen or heard. This still-life photographic exhibition explores the connection between parenting and childhood, using objects accumulated over generations. Through the work, I am questioning why families hold onto certain things, and how objects and photography can serve as tools for memory.

This exhibition has been developed through the The Mill’s Photographer in Residence program, presented with support from the Ana and Christopher Koch Foundation.

I photographed the cover story in this weekend’s . I spent a wonderful afternoon by the ocean with Colin Hackworth and his wife Michelle. Colin is an inspiring man who is big in the ski tourism world and was diagnosed with a terribly rapid onset of motor neurone disease less than a year ago.

Also in the latest , these pages of a new series I’m developing at the moment. I took these photos in Doha, on our way back from Scotland last year. I had half an hour before my body (and my camera) melted into a puddle, and I whizzed around this pastel district gasping at the view around each corner. That hazy, foggy effect… that’s not a filter, it’s my lens fogging up on the inside due to the sudden 30 degree jump up in temp once I was outside. At first I thought it was the sweat getting in my eyes!

I’m hoping to exhibit this series somewhere in Adelaide in 2024, if you happen to know any gallery spaces accessible to someone like myself who isn’t so established in the fine art world - I’d love to know about them!

Sami-Odi wines, Barossa Valley. What an honour it was to spend an afternoon last year with , observing him in the final steps of the wine making process - sealing, labelling and packaging. Each bottle handled by the man himself, wax carefully teaspooned onto the cork before it is dipped into an electric frying pan of hot wax. Fraser makes just 900 cases each year, and has a waiting list of 24,000 people hoping to get one.

Accompanied by a brilliantly written article by about Instagram fuelling demand for cult wines, these photos were featured in The Weekend Australian Magazine. Now, ironically back on Instagram, possibly adding fuel to the fire. Fraser is a lovely, down to earth man, and deserves every success.

So proud of this shoot I put together for in the sand dunes of Coffin Bay National Park, near my hometown on the EP. We were sandblasted, had issues (that I resolved) with my film camera, the products were flying everywhere (Dad’s fishing rods really came in handy for holding things in place) but it all turned out more than fine. Some of the most stressful shots when we were running out of light ended up being the best! Keep an eye out for a BTS reel, it’s quite funny and coming soon. Thanks for trusting me to do this one alone, and for pulling the coolest products together!

Hooray for the new issue of which includes not one but two features from little old me! It’s been almost 10 years of shooting for frankie, and I’m stoked to be able to continue doing so from Adelaide.

This first share, the big opener for the fashion editorial which I shot in the sand dunes of Coffin Bay National Park. It was one of the more challenging shoots I’ve done, working alone (almost) to art direct, style the products and photograph them. More storytelling and BTS to come later. For now, we can just enjoy this dreamy snap of a sarong, and put our hands together for my Dad standing just out of frame after having nailed the perfect throw in gale force winds. 👏👏👏

Big thanks to Dad for the challenging four wheel driving in the dusk light, sorry for almost directing us over a steep ridge. Thanks to my partner Andy for patiently running to and from the car to grab products, and for being the quiet, calm energy I need in high stress situations. Thanks Mum for keeping James at home so he wasn’t sandblasted. A real team effort solo shoot.

In case you missed it, I posted to my stories a little casting call-out for Adelaide families. I’ve got a paid shoot opportunity for 2 adults (M + F) and two kids (any gender) aged 8-14 in late Feb. It doesn’t have to be the traditional family set up, it could be uncle, auntie, niece and nephew, or family of 3 plus a good friend.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I think I’m allowed (whoops, if not) to let slip that the shoot will involve golfing family fun! No experience in golf or acting/modelling required. I’ve been brushing up on my golf lingo so I can say things like HOLE IN ONE!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Seeking any ethnicities to apply, as always I’m keen for the photos I take to be as diverse and inclusive as possible.

To apply...
Email : [email protected]
Subject : Family casting
Include a recent photo or photos, your names, ages, contact number and whether or not you can be available for a 3-7pm shoot on a weeknight (it’ll be financially worth an early minute from work/school!).
Deadline for submissions is 18th Jan, but get them in asap because waiting til the last minute makes me anxious thinking that I can’t find anyone. THANK YOU!
