The tiniest baby I once photographed, now full of personality and on the move.

Being invited back to capture families as they grow is something I’ll never take for granted.

I first photographed this family during maternity.

Then newborn.
Then three months.
And now — sitter stage.

The first year moves quietly and quickly all at once.

Newborn curls become steady hands.
Sleepy stretches become curious smiles.
Tiny details change before you even realise.

Look how at first you curl your entire hand around the tip of my finger, 7 short months later, you reach your tiny fingers across my whole finger.

This is why I believe in documenting more than just one moment.

I’m not only a newborn photographer — I love being a first-year storyteller, walking alongside families as their babies grow.

Watching this little one change through each season has been such a privilege.

The early days don’t stay little for long.

From waiting… to holding 💕

There is something incredibly special about being invited back.

I photographed this beautiful family during their maternity session, documenting the anticipation, the quiet excitement, the waiting.

And now, I’ve had the honour of capturing their newborn days.

The shift from bump to baby is one of the most powerful transformations in motherhood.

It’s slow.
Tender.
Overwhelming.
Beautiful.

Moments like these are why I do what I do.

As a newborn photographer based in the Adelaide Hills, I love walking alongside families — not just for one session, but through the seasons that shape them.

It feels a little surreal to write this…

Nina Schultz Photography has recently been recognised among Adelaide’s best newborn photographers by The Adelaide Examiner 💕

While recognition was never the reason I began this work, it’s incredibly special to see connection-focused, heart-led photography acknowledged in our community.

More than anything, this is a thank you.
To the mothers who trust me in those tender early days.
To the families who allow me to witness quiet newborn snuggles and the in-between moments that matter most.

My work has always been about real connection — not posed perfection.

And I’m so grateful that there is space in Adelaide for photography that values warmth, honesty, and emotional depth.

Dad had a great idea: “we are gonna have a stick fight” and the photos are magical!

Toddlers aren’t meant to sit still, and that’s exactly why my sessions are designed around play and movement.

The Art of Play is about letting children move, explore, laugh, wander, and just be themselves.

No “say cheese”
No “look at the camera”
No forced smiles.

Instead, we follow their curiosity.
We turn movement into connection.
We capture giggles, concentration, and those fleeting in-between moments you’ll miss one day.

Because real joy doesn’t come from sitting still,
it comes from freedom, safety, and being seen.
And somehow… that’s when the most beautiful photos happen.

What actually happens at a session?

You don’t need to “perform” for your photo session 💕

Here’s what actually happens when you arrive:

We take it slow.
There’s time to settle in, feed, cuddle, breathe.
No rushing. No pressure. No expectation for your baby to do anything at all.

If your baby needs you, you respond.
If your toddler needs a moment, we follow their lead.
If things feel a little messy or emotional, that’s real life, and it’s welcome here.

I gently guide where needed, but mostly I observe.
Tiny hands. Soft stretches. Quiet moments.
The way you naturally soothe, love, and connect.

You don’t need to know what to do.
You don’t need to smile on cue.
You just need to show up as you are.
That’s where the magic is ✨

You don’t need a settled baby.
You don’t need a routine.

My newborn sessions are completely baby-led.
We pause for feeds, cuddles and comfort — always.

Some babies sleep, some stay wide-eyed, some need extra time. Every single one is perfect exactly as they are 🤍
