T2D Southern Construction Precinct - July 2026 Update🏗️

Big milestone for the T2D tunnels — the first of two smaller Tunnel Boring Machines has arrived in Adelaide. These compact TBMs will dig cross passages between the main tunnels every 120 metres, creating emergency exits, maintenance access and space for key tunnel systems.

They’re the first dedicated cross‑passage TBMs ever used on an Australian tunnelling project.

Meanwhile, the main TBMs — Mary, Catherine and Elizabeth — are gearing up for the major tunnel drives. Catherine has now been blessed at Clovelly Park and will join Mary on the 4.5 km Southern Tunnels. Elizabeth will be blessed soon before starting the 2.2 km Northern Tunnels.

The T2D Project is Australia’s first to run three huge TBMs at the same time. Each machine is around 100 metres long, 15 metres wide and weighs 3,500 tonnes. Running all three together means both tunnel sections can be built at once, helping deliver a nonstop South Road by 2031.

The T2D Project is the final 10.5-kilometre section of the North-South Corridor, completing 78 kilometres of traffic light-free motorway between Gawler and Old Noarlunga. The Australian and South Australian governments have each committed $7.7 billion to the project.

Marine & Harbours Hotel, Port Adelaide - July Update 🏗️

The iconic 1978 Marine & Harbours building is being reborn as Port Adelaide’s newest boutique destination. Blending retro charm with bold brutalist architecture, the Marine & Harbours Hotel will offer spacious rooms, riverfront suites, rooftop views, and a warm, nostalgic design that celebrates the Port’s maritime heritage.

A landmark transformed for a new era on the waterfront.

The building’s well‑known Wonderwalls mural is planned to be retained and restored, with the developers in contact with the original artists.

Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Project - South Tunnel Precinct I July 2026 Update🏗️

South Australia has reached a major milestone on its largest infrastructure project, with tunnelling now underway on the $15.4 billion River Torrens to Darlington (T2D) Project.

Tunnel Boring Machine Mary has begun excavating the first 4.5‑kilometre Southern Tunnel, advancing 8–10 metres per day with a 24/7 workforce of up to 20 specialists. Her assembly began after components arrived in October 2025, lifted piece‑by‑piece into the launch box using a 500‑tonne gantry crane.

Mary is one of three TBMs—each around 100 m long, 15 m in diameter and weighing 3,500 tonnes—named after South Australian suffragists Mary Lee, Catherine Helen Spence and Elizabeth Webb Nicholls. TBM Catherine will soon begin the parallel Southern Tunnel, while TBM Elizabeth will launch from Hilton to build the 2.2‑kilometre Northern Tunnels.

Using three TBMs enables simultaneous construction of the Northern and Southern tunnels, supporting delivery of a non‑stop South Road by 2031. T2D completes the final 10.5 kilometres of the North–South Corridor, creating 78 kilometres of uninterrupted motorway between Gawler and Old Noarlunga.

The Australian and South Australian Governments have each invested $7.7 billion in the project.

With tunnelling underway, the public can track Mary’s progress via the new online TBM Tracker, with updates for Catherine and Elizabeth to follow once they commence tunnelling.

Port Vincent Water Tower Art

A vibrant tribute to Port Vincent’s history and community pride.

Completed in 2021, the water tower mural blends maritime heritage, local agriculture, Indigenous stories, and everyday coastal life into one striking artwork.

Designed by Joel Van Moore (Vans the Omega) and painted by Camilo Delgado and Jasmine Crisp, it captures the town’s past and present — from ketches and grain ships to sailing clubs, snapper fishing, and the iconic wharf.

A community‑driven project with over 500 local responses, this mural stands as a colourful landmark on the Yorke Peninsula.
