Long, personal post ahead :)

So, what's happening with my photography?
I have been asked this a few times now.
I am not dependent on photography as a source of income anymore and have had a bit of a change in priorities during the past 1.5 years for several reasons.
Making art is really why I started photography in the first place, and I want to get deeper into art - especially "difficult" art. I'm ready now to embark on this journey, to play and discover and find the joy in things again.
Unfortunately, I have really fallen out of love with social media (and yet she posts it on Facebook, the irony, haha!) - the constant changing of guidelines, shadowbanning hashtags, the intense amount of work I have to put in to get my work seen at all feel like I'm in a toxic relationship where my partner moves the goalposts all the time and I can do everything right & still get in trouble because the algorithm is having a bad day.
And with the kind of work I want to do, I will definitely end up in trouble.
So I am going to make art primarily for me, and the person(s) in the photo. If it ends up on social media and doesn't get me blocked for 30 days because of a ni**le, fine - but I guess a lot of it will be on my website, maybe I will make something like a Patreon, maybe even exhibit the work somewhere....

Also, I'm looking for models of all genders, especially LGBTQIA+, disabled, fat people, tattooed people, very thin people, s*x workers, burlesque artists, ... you should be comfortable with some degree of nudity, though.

Am I still going to take your family photos? Sure! Weddings I think I'm going to phase out slowly, though - I love them but there are many people who shoot them better than me and they aren't my main thing anyway.
Still, if you want me to shoot really anything at all, just ask!

Me trying to figure out what weird sh*t is gonna happen next ✨ 😂
Jokes aside though, times are difficult. I often find myself struggling with my mental health issues even though I take medication. Lack of motivation, feelings of guilt, boredom, anxiety, you name it.
I took some self portraits yesterday and was initially very unhappy with the outcome but I'm posting this anyway to remind myself and you that I'm still here, and we will get through this somehow. 💖

These are the wonderful people who were so brave as to stand in front of my camera for my body positivity project. 💖 I think I am going to call the series "Perfect Bodies".⁠
A physical exhibition will unfortunately have to wait, but I wanted to give you a glimpse anyway 😊⁠
This experience has shown me that we judge our own bodies extremely harshly, often for something we have no control over, but also that others can be extremely judgemental towards those perceived as "different". ⁠
These are difficult times, but one way we can make them a little less awful is by being kind. First of all, to ourselves, and then, to others. Write a kind comment under someone's photo. Give people compliments that are unrelated to appearance. Take gentle care of yourself and remember that none of us were prepared for Covid, and we are all going through a collective trauma experience right now. Those who seem like they have it all together are often those who need the most help✨

⁠..comes in many forms. It is the courage to say "no". It is the decision to love yourself first. It is the bravery to look the world in the eye and say "this is me, I will not twist myself into shapes just to fit your mold".⁠
Strength is what comes to my mind first when I think about Sandra.⁠
That, and her infectious smile and warm personality. ❤️⁠

A goiter (German: Kropf) is the result of a swollen thyroid gland. In Renaissance art, there are several depictions of the Virgin Mary or the Jewish heroine Judith which show a distinct goiter. It is believed that this was not a coincidence (such as the artist's models having goiters and the painter just depicting them like one would with a nose) but rather a purposeful adition to portray an ideal feminine beauty.⁠
Today, many people perceive it as a "flaw". Goes to show how fleeting beauty standards are... ☺️⁠

In Iran, a father decapitated his 14year old daughter Romina with a sickle in an "honour killing" (as if there was any honour in killing)⁠
The artist Romina - she chose her alias in memory of the girl - made a song in protest of femicide and violence against women.⁠
I was tremendously honoured to take these photos ❤️⁠

This is a photo my clients' daughter took of me the other day - a little out of focus but I love it 😊
Thank you for the great responses and feedback to my last post. I have a really interesting shoot in the works right now and am going to be collaborating with artists and models for meaningful photography projects ❤

It's been almost 3 months since my last shoot, and I have been very quiet on here too. During this time I was able to reflect deeply on myself, my business, my work; and ultimately, what this work means in the long run. ⁠
The recent events especially have made it clear to me that I need to do something actually meaningful with my skill set, this "platform", and my privilege.⁠
This is not to say that my past work has been without meaning; I know it means a lot to many of you and I am deeply grateful ❤️⁠
It does however mean that this space will become more political, more "arty", less easy-to-look-at pretty pictures and more raising of awareness about the difficult conversations we need to have as a society.⁠
I will do my best to not put myself in the foreground and share how I am feeling, but rather give the spotlight to others.⁠
In this case, the beautiful lady on the left is , a model and Vitiligo & Deaf activist; the beautiful lady on the right is .alli , a talented singer and designer - all the items shown (apart from the black tops) are designed by her label . Makeup is by .bonelli .⁠⁠⁠⁠
I will not be using the hashtag "Black Lives Matter" because I don't want to occupy that space and leave "room" for those organizing protests, but rest assured I am 100% on board with the cause ✊🏻✊🏾✊🏿⁠
