For anyone interested in seeing the Austrian TV report about my Street by Street: Vienna project to walk and photograph every street in Vienna, I've now added English subtitles to it (as they dubbed me into German!)

Photos from my Street by Street: Vienna project (where I aim to walk and photograph every street in Vienna)

Yesterday I got distracted from the streets I intended to walk in the 2nd District, when I heard & followed some loud noises and ended up at Krieau - Wiener Trabrenn-Verein (Google Translate: ‘Vienna Trotting Club’) 🏇

I’ve wanted to see one of the races here for years, so I was very lucky to chance upon the racetrack on a day when it was happening (and to find somewhere to watch it for free).

Something about the positioning of the riders looks gladiatorial. If only Muybridge had owned a Leica, he might have got his “horse with all four legs off the ground” photo with far less effort (photo no. 3) 🐎

🇭🇺 Osztrák-angol történetek / 🇬🇧 Austrian-English stories

A képen látható brit-ír fotós, Michael Goldrei nyolc éve magánéleti okokból költözött Bécsbe; véletlenül pont ugyanabba a városba, ahonnan annak idején a nagyanyja elmenekült a nácik elől.

The British-Irish photographer Michael Goldrei, pictured here, moved to Vienna eight years ago for personal reasons; coincidentally, to the same city from which his grandmother fled the N***s. He came up with the idea during the pandemic to take at least one photo on every street in Vienna - which won't be an easy and especially not a short project, since we're talking about about 2,600 kilometers of streets. However, Goldrei has recently really started implementing the plan, which means he walks the city for two to three hours a day and takes photos. He wants to put the photos together into exhibitions and a book. He shared his story with the audience on ORF's Vienna news, so that's where I also heard about him 😊

[Image description: I cut a segment from the ORF video, where Goldrei, in an orange cardigan, mustard yellow t-shirt and glasses, speaks into the reporter's microphone in the Prater. Blurred figures, trees and stalls can be seen in the background.]

I’ll be on TV on Monday 4 May, 7pm ORF 2 on the “Wien Heute” (Vienna Today) programme, talking about my walking/photography project Street by Street: Vienna, as well as a bit about my Viennese grandmother 🚶📸💅

I’ll be dubbed into German, so I probably won’t understand half of what I’m saying!
