I am incredibly excited to curate the exhibition “Animal Absurdity” by Roger Ballen once again, who is considered one of the most important contemporary photographers. After its debut two years ago in Vienna, as part of the Rotlicht Festival, I am now presenting the exhibition in collaboration with the Lumen Museum and the Eck Museum in South Tyrol. This collaboration is part of the new Analog Photo Festival. I will be hosting two workshops on June 4th and 5th, and the opening will take place on June 4rd at the Lumen Museum. Nedavno sam bio gost nove epizode podkasta „Dijasporno“ pokrenutog od kolegice i kustosice Marije Ilić. Pričamo o stvaranju konceptualnog prostora Photo Cluster, Rotlicht festivala za analognu fotografiju, kao i mnogim drugim projektima, nastalim u Beču. Ostale anekdote o iskustvima migracije su, naravno, nezaobilazne u ovom formatu:)
U svakom slučaju jako interesantno proći kroz razgovor više od dvije i pol dekade sopstvenog zivota. Za sve one koji su u stanju da koriste neki od jezika bivše republike!

Recently, I was a guest on a new episode of the podcast “Dijasporno”, launched by my colleague and curator Marija Ilić. We talk about the creation of the conceptual space Photo Cluster, the Rotlicht Festival for analog photography, as well as many other projects developed in Vienna. Other anecdotes about the experience of migration are, of course, an unavoidable part of this format :)

In any case, it was very interesting to revisit more than two and a half decades of my own life through this conversation. For everyone who is able to understand one of the languages of the former Yugoslav republics!

Poslijeratno uzrastanje uz svirku gitare u gradskom parku i litru najjeftinijeg vina….tada ruzica litarska, prvi put se susrećem sa kratkim pričama zbirke Sarajevski Marlboro. Bilo mi je jako drago poslije toliko godina druziti se sa gospodinom Jergovićem i njegovom suprugom u mom ateljeu u Beču. Tim povodom su nastale ove divne slike i po koji portret u tehnici mokri kolodij. Hvala na posjeti i radujem se skorom druzenju!

Ovu je sliku u tehnici mokrog kolodija snimio i na staklo prenio bečki fotograf, fotografski entuzijast, čuvar baštine i eksperimentator Dino Rekanović. Na njoj smo nas dvoje, onako kakvi bismo na slici bili prije već dvjestotinjak godina. Tada su bili snimani samo veoma važni ljudi, ili oni koji su tek slučajem bili povlašteni. Ovakve slike su važne iz dva razloga. Prvi je da vidimo kakvi bismo mi bili u ona vremena, a drugi je da pokušamo dokučiti kako su izgledali stvarni ljudi iz onih vremena. U oba slučaja riječ je o prijevodu vizualnog ključa. Samo je ljudsko oko isto. Valjda je isto.

I’m incredibly excited to open the Rotlicht Festival (November 15, 2024, at 7:00 PM) for the fourth time. Many of you know that this is a very special project for me. The so called „Festival selection“ exhibition is “Animal Absurdity,” an installation by one of the most important contemporary photographers, Roger Ballen, from Johannesburg. Additionally, the 18 winning projects from our Open Call are presented in the studios of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. The festival also includes around 30 partner galleries and off-spaces that will be showcasing analog photography throughout the ten days of the festival and some of then you can visit also after the festival.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to my extraordinary, highly professional team. This project wouldn’t be possible without them. Especially to mention Co-director Michael Laubsch, Operational Manager Sellma Frühwirth, technic and Video Amar Tahirović, graphic and design Ulrike Mayrhuber, Exhibition Design Fuxi Dürler, public relations Aliza Peisker, volunteer management Sabrina Eckers, logistics Max Habdank and translations and lecturing Thomas Raab and Neraide Ribeiro.

I’m looking forward to the next exciting days of the festival and hope to see some of you there!

It was a great pleasure for me to be invited to two conferences and to be a reviewer for the portfolio review at this year's EXP.22.

During the 5 days of the festival I could also represent, with my colleague Kati Bruder, our analog photo festival ROTLICHT. Thank you Experimental Photography for letting us meet all these great people.
