SEACAM AMBASSADOR PATRICK NEUMANN 🇩🇪

After leaving his finance job for the passion of diving, Patrick Neumann has become one of the most well-known underwater photographers worldwide with images awarded in various contests and published in international magazines.

Patrick lives and works in North Sulawesi – where he shares his knowledge and experience of more than 40 years with other passionate underwater photographers as a Photo Pro at Solitude Lembeh Resort. As Resort Manager, he can now combine his business skills and passion for photography in the "Critter Capital of the World", documenting the fascinating underwater world of the Lembeh strait.

Based in Austria like us, Harald has spent over two decades as an expert in the tourism industry and as a freelance pho­to­jour­na­list. Very early on, he lost his heart to the fascinating and mysterious world of fresh water, documenting mountain lakes, rivers and secret places hidden in the most remote corners of the world.

He leads extra­or­di­na­ry expe­di­ti­ons – ranging from diving beneath volcanoes and heli­di­ving to industry events like the “UW Photo Days on Ice" – while his photos and stories are published in media outlets worldwide.

SURPRISE VISIT 👋

We usually don't get visitors on weekends, but longtime SEACAM photographer Wisma Bharuna from Indonesia took a chance and surprised us with a spontaneous "Hello" at the office on Saturday! 🙌

A long way from home and now traveling Europe, he stopped by, hoping to see SEACAM in action (and take home a new S45 viewfinder!) – luckily this way, we got to take some memory shots together 😁

PS: If you're planning to visit us, let us know in advance so we can prep some coffee and Austrian pastries! 😉

SEACAM photographer Alexis Chappuis shares some insight into his science & conservation expeditions to depths of up to -170m 💬

✖️ THE MISSION
Deep-research diving is a high-stakes environment that demands rigor, focus, and flawless planning. We must constantly evaluate technical risks and work with partners we can trust implicitly. Adhering strictly to the dive plan is a necessity, especially when balancing scientific objectives against a relentless time limit.

✖️ THE CHALLENGE
When working in low-light environments with bottom times often restricted to less than 10 minutes, there is no room for error. We need gear that is reliable, intuitive, and as compact as possible. You cannot waste precious seconds searching for buttons or fumbling with settings; the equipment must be second nature.

✖️ THE CHOICE

Heinz Erich Zappel is a passionate photographer, always ready to capture the fascinating beauty of the underwater world – and creative macro photography is his specialty. His statement “Makro geht immer” (EN: "Macro always works") became so popular it developed into an international Facebook community and a Workshop series, where interested photographers can discover the beauty of fresh water and improve their craft.

BLACK AND WHITE

SEACAM photographer Marco Bebi shared with us these photos of some beautiful black coral, growing in the waters near Scilla (Calabria, Italy) on a seabed between 55 and 65 meters. In his words, "one of the most beautiful places in the Mediterranean, where very strong currents in the Strait of Sicily provide nourishment and feed very rare species."
