Only two days to go before Hungry Eye Fair opens in Amsterdam

From 2–6 September, Hungry Eye Fair will unfold at De Kromhouthal — a meeting place for photography, creativity, beauty and the people who bring it all to life.

Every time I return to the Netherlands, it feels a little like travelling to Jupiter — with enormous excitement, curiosity and a tiny bit of panic along the way 🫣😅

I’m endlessly fascinated by its architecture, by the raw force of nature 😅🙈, and most of all by the open-hearted, sincere, beautiful and wonderfully interesting people I’ve met there.

There is always that strange feeling before something new — a mixture of anticipation and uncertainty. You don’t quite know what is waiting for you, but you hope it will be inspiring, unexpected, joyful and full of beautiful discoveries.

I’m especially looking forward to seeing and the whole team — people who know how to create something truly special: an atmosphere of warmth, support, openness and celebration of beauty and photography.

So, Amsterdam… here we come.

I can’t wait to see you at Hungry Eye Fair ❤️

Today, I turn 45.

I had planned to write a completely different post. But I decided that this story matters more.

First of all, I want to thank you for every message you sent me, for your support, for your concern, and simply for caring. It meant more to me than I can put into words 🙏

This is what happened on the night of 13 August 2026.

We suddenly noticed a smell of smoke, just after we had finished the birthday cake for my youngest daughter Khrystyna’s 11th birthday and watched a film together. Thankfully, we hadn’t gone to bed yet.

We hadn’t noticed the smoke coming from outside before, because all the windows were closed.

Then the electricity went out. The owners of the house told us that people were being evacuated from the nearby hotel, so we grabbed our documents, the children and the dog and headed there.

When we stepped outside, we saw a red glow in the sky and could smell the thick, acrid smoke.

At the hotel, emergency vehicles were arriving and people were being evacuated. But each vehicle could only take around 10–12 people at a time, while there were between 200 and 300 people there.

We decided to go back to our car and try to escape by road.

Our house was down by the sea, right on the waterfront. As we started making our way down, a shower of burning embers began falling around us from above. I didn’t film that moment — there was simply no thought of taking out a phone — but it was genuinely terrifying.

The road above us was blocked in both directions, so there was no way we could get out by car. From every roadblock, we could see flames burning all around us. The police and fire engines were already there.

The only option left was to go back down towards the sea and reach a boat moored near our shore.

We had a SUP, and my husband used it to get us out to the boat. Further out at sea, we spotted a larger boat and began signalling to it with a torch.

That boat was picking people up and taking them to a larger vessel. From there, I filmed some of the scenes of the fire which you may have seen in my stories.

What is femininity?

Is it a certain state of being — something we simply carry within us?
Or perhaps a feeling, something that quietly awakens somewhere deep inside?

Does it live in the way we move, in the tone of our voice, in our gaze?
In our hair, the way we dress, the way we walk — or perhaps it has very little to do with any of these things?

Maybe femininity is the warmth we bring into the way we connect with others.
The ability to feel deeply, to empathise, to share another person’s joy or pain.
To give without losing ourselves.
To rejoice, to embrace, to comfort, to nurture.
To dance not only with our bodies, but with our souls.

How do we recognise femininity when we encounter it?
How do we feel it — and does it truly matter to us?

Does it bring something special into our world —
something light, beautiful, gentle and comforting?

Does something inside us soften when we see it?
Do we feel the urge to smile?
Does it remind us that beauty still exists in the world around us?

And perhaps, ultimately, femininity is something more than simply a quality or a way of being.

Could it give us faith in tenderness?
In love?
In the beauty of human connection?

Could it — quietly, almost imperceptibly —
give us hope for a better life?

A heartfelt thank you for these beautiful photographs — for seeing and capturing something so delicate Marta Syrko ❤️🙏

A Circle of Colour — a Circle of Life

To live. To love. To embrace. To hold one another up. To laugh through the tears. To put on our most beautiful dresses. To dance when the music plays. And, again and again, to choose life — painting it in the colours of our own hearts.

Ukrainian women know how to do this.
They know how to keep the light alive, even through the darkest nights.
And they share that light so generously with the world. ❤️

After a sleepless night following yet another night-time attack, which only ended at 4 am, they still came together on 1 August for the opening of the “Circle of Colour” exhibition at VDNG in Kyiv.

They didn’t simply come to celebrate.
They brought life with them.
Their joy. Their strength.
Laughter, embraces, music.
And the colours of their hearts ❤️

Because even after a night filled with fear, we can greet the morning with colour.
We can embrace. We can dance.
We can create.
We can live.

The free “Circle of Colour” exhibition will be open at VDNG in Kyiv until 31 August.

We are waiting to welcome you into our circle.
Into our colour.
Into our life.

P.S. A heartfelt thank you to the curator of the project Оксана Боровець · visual artist Oksana Borovets

In 2022, I visited a Helmut Newton exhibition in Vienna.

Among all the photographs, one series stayed with me: French women crossing the border. They looked as if they had stepped straight out of the pages of Vogue—strong, elegant, calm, and completely confident.

That day, I had a thought:

“If I ever have the opportunity to represent Ukraine at an international art event, I want to look exactly like this.”

A few years passed.

The idea quietly settled somewhere in my subconscious and continued doing its work.

Eventually, it led me to 2026, where I had the honor of presenting my series „Paper Shelter“.

At the .institut.wien , where I’m now completing my third year of training, we learn that we live in a constant state of change. Every thought, every emotion, and every meaningful encounter creates new neural connections and reshapes our nervous system.

Sometimes, a single photograph can become one of those transformative moments.

A thought becomes an intention.
An intention becomes action.
And action becomes a new reality.

Thank you, .22 for my look ❤️

Thank you, for your craftsmanship, attention to detail, and exceptional quality🙏

Thank you, .pototska for beautifully editing this video ❤️

P.S. I’m curious—what do you think about this?

Red.

I don’t always smile.

There are days when I feel completely exhausted—emotionally and physically. Days when I have no energy left, when disappointment speaks louder than hope, when anger, sadness, and silence quietly settle inside me. Days when I look at myself as if from another reality.

On those days, I choose red.

A red dress.
Red lipstick.
Red nails.
High heels.
My Pilates outfit.
Sometimes, even just a pair of red socks.

It isn’t simply a colour.

It reminds me that life is still flowing through me.

Red gives me the energy to heal. It helps me return to myself, trust my own strength again, and gently reminds me to keep moving forward.

Do you have a colour like that?

Or perhaps what helps you return to yourself is music, a film, movement, sport, a heartfelt conversation with a friend, a warm embrace, or maybe dancing?

I’d truly love to hear what helps you.
Please share it with me 🙏

These photographs were taken in 2020 by my dear and incredibly talented Marta Syrko 🤩
I will always be grateful—not only for these images, but for the way she saw me.

Makeup—and the warmest hugs—by 🥰

The black dress was a gift from

Sometimes it isn’t the things themselves that give us strength.

It’s the love they carry.
The people behind them.
The memories that stay with us.

And those memories still give me the strength to keep going ❤️
