Art Meets Strategy in Kapitelplatz
Capitulation to Creativity!

In the heart of Salzburg’s Kapitelplatz, two very different forms of "play" sit side-by-side.

On one hand, you have "Sphaera" by Stephan Balkenhol—a two-ton golden sphere with a neutral, Everyman figure standing atop it. It feels like a silent observer of the city, perfectly balanced and impossible to miss.

Right at its feet, the energy shifts to the giant outdoor chessboard. I love how these two interact: while the golden man looks into the distance, locals and travellers alike look down, locked in deep concentration on their next move.

It’s a perfect metaphor for Salzburg: a city that honours the monumental while leaving plenty of room for a good game.

The Quiet Before the Trot

There is something timeless about the sight of Fiakers lined up at Residenzplatz. When the carts stop, and the city noise fades, you can almost hear the echoes of 18th-century Salzburg.

These carriages aren't just a tourist attraction; they are a living link to the city's imperial past. I captured this moment of stillness today—the polished wood, the patient horses, and the iconic Salzburg silhouette in the background.
