The sun alignment was not planned on this one 🫢

What I see vs what I take 👀 How did I do?

Your best photos are never planned, here’s why 👇

I was in Budapest for just 2 days, shooting popular landmarks like the Hungarian Parliament Building…

But this shot wasn’t planned.

I was walking along the river when I noticed a crescent moon setting. Quickly opened my Photopills app to see what it could align with.

Saw it could line up with the roof of this church, so I rushed over and managed to capture this. Ended up being my favourite shot of the trip.

Ever had a moment like this?

Reflections completely changed the way I shoot landscapes.

Early on, I thought reflections only worked when the water was perfectly still.

But over time I realised they can do much more - creating symmetry, framing subjects, adding foreground interest, and even producing abstract textures.

Here are a few lessons that helped me capture stronger reflection photos. Save this for your next shoot. 📸📱

What the most unexpected place you’ve found reflections? ⬇️

Cherry and plum blossoms in Japan are beautiful, but surprisingly hard to photograph well. Branches go everywhere and scenes can quickly feel messy and unpredictable.

That’s why I enjoy shooting them. It’s a great challenge for composition practice.

One technique I often use is framing with nearby branches and shooting with a wide aperture, letting blossoms in the foreground blur into soft layers to simplify the scene and add depth.

Here are 20 frames from Japan’s blossom season.

Which frame is your favorite? 🌸

When I first became interested in photographing the moon, I was fascinated - being able to see it up close, the craters, all the little details 🌕

But after a while, it started to feel repetitive… every shot looked the same.

That’s when I started experimenting: adding foregrounds, shooting during moonrise or moonset, playing with exposure blending, and trying different focal lengths. Creative experiments like moon stacking, silhouettes, and starbursts made it feel alive again.

Happy moon hunting 🌙
Save this if you want to try something different next moon shoot.

The moon is already a very interesting subject by itself. 🌕

You can shoot it just as it is to get a simple and clean result. But I find it’s usually more interesting when you add layers to the frame.

In this photo, I complemented the moon with the waterfalls to give it more depth and context. It makes the image feel less flat, and more complete.

How do you prefer to capture your moon photos? 📸

From 0°C to –35°C ❄️, every frame here was earned with numb fingers, frozen lashes, and that quiet crunch of snow underfoot.

Coming from a tropical country, winter still feels surreal to me. Maybe that’s why I’m so drawn to it. The silence. The harshness. The way light hits ice in subzero temperatures.

Shooting in these conditions demands more. Standing in biting wind, fingers going numb while adjusting settings, pushing through the discomfort just to catch the right light. And maybe that’s why it feels extra rewarding. You earn every photo.

Which kind of winter photo resonates with you the most? ⬇️

The mountain was not the grandest, the lake was not the prettiest, but I was blessed with perfect conditions. Perfect reflections, thin layer of fog and golden hour light all in one shot. Call that a photographer’s dream 🥹
