It’s been a month and a half out here and I can hardly imagine what normal life will even feel like again.
There is something pleasant about the giving over to wilderness and about doing without. It takes it back to the bare essentials. And it’s hard not to have a kind of grief along with it, we’ve stopped valuing places like these, and they’re disappearing little by little. Greenland is beating every expectation.
A total eclipse of the sun. Musk oxen, polar bears. ROV searching for Greenland sharks. Diving under icebergs. Fishing Arctic char in rivers here.
Now we’re off further north, into the Northeast Greenland National Park — the biggest national park on the planet and as distant as you can get from anywhere. No towns. No roads. No people. Just ice and rock and whatever’s out there.

It took us three weeks under sail to get here. Worth every mile. Greenland is a place of contrasts: desert on one shore, glowing blue ice on the other, and absolutely no one around. I thought I knew remote. I did not.

Iceland is behind us.

We sailed through windy nights, took the waves as they came, and kept moving. Somewhere in the North Atlantic a glider is now drifting through the dark, listening for one of the rarest sounds in the ocean: the call of a North Atlantic right whale. Fewer than 350 are left.

But it was the moments in between that stayed with us.

Waterfalls dropping straight off black cliffs into the sea. Fjords opening up one after another, each one emptier than the last. Light that never really left. Basalt columns stacked like something built on purpose. Birds by the thousands, the air full of them.

A dive between two continental plates, in water so clear that distance stopped meaning anything.

Whales surfacing beside the boat, close enough to hear the breath before we saw the blow.

Hundreds of nautical miles of open water, and almost no one out there but us.

Right now we are tied up in Ísafjörður, waiting on a new crew. In two days we point the bow west.

Next stop: Greenland.

Sail training: putting crew, boat, and gear to the test in below-freezing conditions. 100 nautical miles over 3 days — to the offshore island of Utsira, then back to Stavanger via Haugesund. It’s all part of the continuous process of keeping team fit for the fight.

Vorige Woche hatte ich wieder das Vergnügen ein paar Tage im Bregenzerwald, genauer gesagt in Mellau verbringen, zu können.
Obwohl ich dort bereits über mehrere Jahre tätig bin, begeistert mich diese Region jedesmal auf neue.
Kann jedem einen Besuch nur dringend empfehlen.
Aja, da ist da noch die Sache mit der Sprache - Net verzwifla, des goht scho.
