Fight the poverty not the poor
Ein Fotoprojekt der Gruppe ANsichten
im Rahmen des EU-Programms „Jugend in Aktion“
Der Beschluss des landesweiten Bettelverbots in der Steiermark und die polarisierend geführte Diskussion rund um die BettlerInnen hat uns ─ sieben Jugendliche im Alter von 16 bis 23 Jahren ─ auf eine Projektidee gebracht. Wir wollen mit unserem Projekt „Fight the poverty not the poor“
den von Armut Betroffenen die Möglichkeit geben sich an dieser Diskussion zu beteiligen.
„Fight the poverty not the poor“ gibt Armen die Chance, ihre persönliche Sichtweise und Situation darzustellen. Im Rahmen eines Fotoworkshops wird mit den TeilnehmerInnen über deren Situation gesprochen. Diese bekommen Fotokameras zur Verfügung gestellt und werden angehalten Ihre Sichtweise in Form von Bildern festzuhalten. Die so entstandenen Ansichten und Eindrücke werden wir der Grazer Bevölkerung in einer, gemeinsam mit den FotografInnen organisierten und durchgeführten, Fotoausstellung näher bringen. Wir erhoffen uns dadurch mehr Vielfalt, Verständnis und Toleranz in die Diskussion zum Thema Bettelverbot einzubringen. Im Rahmen des Projektes wird ein Ausstellungskatalog produziert und über die gesamte Projektdauer ein Dokumentarfilm entstehen. Abschließend soll „Fight the poverty not the poor“ an Schulen präsentiert und besprochen werden.

A photography project organized by the members of the ANsichten photography and film group and in cooperation with the EU-program, “Youth in action”. The recently passed law, which prohibits begging in public areas all around Styria, and all the controversial discussions that came along with it, lead us - seven students between the ages of 16 and 23 - to the initial idea of "Fight The Poverty Not The Poor". With this project, it is our goal to give people that have been affected by this law, a voice in the ongoing discussion.
“Fight The Poverty Not The Poor” enables economically disadvantaged people to express their personal views and opinions on the current situation. Due to the fact that in Graz one will find individuals from many different cultures and countries, certain language barriers may present themselves to be a hindrance. Therefore the selected candidates will get the chance to speak with photographs they take. Being a part of a photography workshop, they will each be handed a one-time-use camera with which they can speak about their situation in form of pictures they take throughout their everyday lives. By doing this, the people involved are creating unique views and impressions that will be presented to the public in Graz, in the form of a photo gallery, which will be organized by the participants themselves. We hope that we will be able to contribute more variety and tolerance to the debate on the prohibition of public begging. In the course of the project, a catalogue and also a documentary film about the making of the project as a whole, will be released. In the end "Fight The Poverty And The Poor" shall also be presented and discussed in schools around Styria. Projektzeitraum / Timeframe: Juli 2011 – Jänner 2012
