I traveled to Australia in August 2023, that makes it about 2 years and 5 months ago. Both times (I was also here in 2020, crazy) I started my journey in Bondi, very close to the beach. Since October ’23 I chose to live in the Inner West. So many times I thought of taking my camera around the neighborhood to capture its essence, but I usually just use my phone or my mind.
I was chatting with a photographer recently, and I found myself saying that I tend to accumulate many photos in my hard drive—when I say “many”, I mean thousands—because most of the time I shoot them for myself, as a little souvenir for my brain, kind of a “been there, saw that” situation.
Well, now I would like to share these with you. Here’s a recollection of random photos that make me feel close to home, wether that’s in Buenos Aires or in the Inner West. I tend to find so many similarities to my neighborhood back home, even though I’m +14,000km away.
These are “just snaps”. Simply, a set of random images that remind me that I love this city not just for the beauty of the CBD, the Opera House, gorgeous beaches, fancy restaurants or tall buildings.
The Inner West makes me feel comfortable in my own skin and its people make me feel like I belong, makes me want to walk around and discover the character of each front yard, makes me want to talk with strangers on the street, and sit in the many parks it owns to write on my journal in silence.
I hope you too can appreciate the beauty of these chaotic frames. This, so far, is what I’ve been calling home.
P.S. I’m also doing this post to get myself out of my own mind. The world has been through so much violence, I feel the need to appreciate my current safety and privileges, because we know they can change from one second to the other. Stay safe, you are loved.
