The Natural World The name's Rohail and I'm an amateur wildlife photographer. Follow along on my journey to learn more about the beauty all around us! Catharines, Canada.

I've always had a deep love for our planet and have made it my personal mission to share that love through my work. My name is Rohail Akbar, I'm 24 years old and living in St. From a young age, I have loved Nature and Animals due to being exposed to it a lot. I love any form of nature whether desert or rainforest. I have lived in Dubai, Canada and now Malaysia so I have experienced many types of environments. I recently have taken an interest in photography as it captures the amazing moments of nature that can be passed down to many generations. But if the world continues to head in the direction its going there will be no more of this beauty. I want to try and help and raise awareness of how extraordinary and unique wildlife is. The only way people can want to conserve something is if they really care about it.

Self-sustaining Ecosystem

This may not be my best work from a technical aspect, but I really enjoy this shot because I think it does a nice job of capturing the different elements that make the Deosai Plateau so dream-like. I also enjoy the natural contrast that exists between the deep, fertile earth and the bright yellow plumage of this Citrine Wagtail.

Deosai National Park sits on the world's second-highest plateau and is often referred to as the 'Land of Giants'. This image showcases one of the many glacial streams that flow like veins across the seemingly endless expanse. Alongside these tributaries are the resilient, lush, and dense alpine grasses that hug every inch of the earth. These grasses and wildflowers provide food and shelter for many of the species, and stagnating pockets of water provide breeding grounds for insects that these Citrine Wagtails eventually feed on. The combination of these and many more elements makes Deosai National Park one of the largest high-altitude freshwater wetlands in the world.

That delicate and self-sustaining balance that we call an ecosystem is infinitely beautiful.

Horned Lark

I remember seeing my first Horned Lark out in the vineyards of Niagara-on-the-Lake many years ago. It was at the time when I had just started taking wildlife photography more seriously and after that interaction, I never ended up seeing another one again. They're not considered a rare bird but I ended up concocting a narrative in my head about them being native exclusively to North America.

So, I was pleasantly surprised to see one all the way in Pakistan when visiting Deosai National Park. This species along with Citrine Wagtails were hard at work foraging all over the rolling hills in great numbers and it was deeply calming to be serenaded by their songs at dawn.

Catching Final Light

The Passu Cones are a striking cluster of pyramid-shaped peaks in the Karakoram Mountain Range. I feel incredibly grateful to have had the chance to photograph them as the final rays of sunlight illuminated their summits, bathing them in a almost mystical golden glow.

Meet the Blue-cheeked Bee-eater

These little guys are some of the coolest and most colourful birds to roam our skies. They're a fascinating bird to observe while hunting for insects in mid-air.

Have another species you'd like to see and know more about? Drop it in the comments below or this bee-eater may neutralize you next 👹
