A photographic ode to the toddlerhood curls

When my client messaged me to say “I really want to capture his wispy golden curls as they are now, because I know his hair won’t stay like this for much longer” I instantly knew what she meant. My son’s hair is exactly the same 🍯

Just one of many toddlerhood traits that is so beautiful, it hurts to think it won’t last forever. Our boys.

Their sweetness though, is something I hope they never lose.

Boys sure do love their mamas. What a gift ✨

It wasn’t until this past week, upon some reflection of the season, that it struck me just how intertwined into so many stories, I and family photographers everywhere, truly are.

The chapter I find most profound is where I witness a woman step into motherhood for the first time. How I honour her body with a maternity photoshoot, knowing the journey and transformation she is about to undergo.

And it’s never the same story over and over again, which is the beauty of life. Every story, is of course, different. Every birth, every life.

Ultimately that’s what makes you into the Mother that you now are. Resilient, determined, stronger than you ever realised you could actually be.

And you have the photos to remember who you were before and the power you stepped into when you became Mama.

It’s an honour to be someone who captured that for you.

Joyful, wild & free. Just how childhood should feel ✨

June has arrived, and with it, the familiar feeling of the closing of a book.

My internal calendar always marks June as the end of a year. A time for reflection and to consider what comes next. More on that will be sent out to those on my mailing list today.

I said a fond farewell to the desert on Saturday evening with my last outdoor session and what a beautiful one it was. And as always, I say - Do the shoot Mums - how quickly life can be flipped on its head, as we’ve learnt in the recent months.

As I look back through my sessions that I have waiting to post, ones that I’ve mentally labelled ‘pre-war’, I see so much happiness outside, in the dunes or at the beach or my newest secret green spot. So many family moments, saved forever.

I’m grateful to have captured them before our lives changed. But thank goodness only temporarily. We are the lucky ones.

Celebrate all that you have, capture the smiles of your children as much as you can. Be in the pictures, mums. Soak up this crazy fleeting life we have the privilege of living.

My outdoor season may have been capped this year and I have worked hard to fit as many of the postponed sessions in before it became too hot. Of course, many sessions will have to roll over into next season, and that’s ok.

The dunes will be waiting for us, in all their serene, rolling glory.

All I can say is: next winter season will be the biggest and best yet!!! I hope to see so many of you in front of my lens, celebrating our families and all the UAE has done for us 🇦🇪

After a short pause, I’m returning to the grid with a very golden session ✨

Honestly, after the few months we’ve had, I needed to step away for a while. So I whisked my darling Heath away to the English countryside. And it was everything we needed it to be. Family, friends, endless green rolling fields, fresh air, independent high street strolls and peace.

And now we are ‘home’ again. Back to the sun and golden dunes. And I have a vault full of beautiful sessions to share with you.

As we start to bid farewell to outdoor season and I say goodbye to the dunes for the summer, I wanted to give this session a permanent place on my grid.

It was such a beautiful evening celebrating this Mama, stood beneath the golden sky, preparing to welcome their third baby boy into the world 🌞

Do you feel like the dunes are calling you for a session next winter? My diary opens in August for the next season, I hope to see you there! 🌞

A first birthday.
A whole year of him.

I still marvel at how we create these little lives. These tiny whirlwinds of every single emotion.

What always amazes me is how the youngest sibling seems to slot right in. Many of my clients I’ve known long before they welcome a new baby. Then when I see them again afterwards, and think, hang on, hasn’t he always been here?

As though they were always meant for you.

But did you ever find yourself at a point in motherhood, when it felt like everyone around you is happily pregnant with baby No 2 and you’re the only one who isn’t?

That’s where my internal monologue is constantly going.

Baby no 2? Why not?
Actually, absolutely not!
But everyone else is.
Are we behind?
But only children are sad, that’s what it says online.
How could we handle more?
Heath would love a sibling.
I’m only just starting to get my life back.

And round and round it goes.

So mums, tell me, when did you feel you knew that is was the right time to grow your family?

Or did you decide one was perfect?
How did you make peace with that?

I have so many questions.

Love,
an unsure Mum x

A new month - an reason to be hopeful? That’s how I’m trying to frame it.

I’m sure I can speak for us all when I say we are glad to see March come to an end. It certainly was not what we had planned. We were served a wild card well and truly.

But I’m looking toward the future with hope, perhaps naively but really what else can we do?

So here I am, to say - my summer diary is now open for in-home bookings, exclusively to my existing & waitlist clients. If you received my email this morning, that’s you! I hope my words have resonated and made you feel less alone ❣️

We’re all in this together, taking it day by day. I’m moving forward as best I can with the circumstances we find ourselves in.

So cheers to April - what should be a season of new beginnings, renewed hope and optimism, let’s hope that’s in store for us here in Dubai & the whole of the Middle East.

Enjoy this gorgeous gallery, truly an honour to have photographed this sweet little boy and all those who love him the most. Thank you K & P for inviting me back time and time again to document your beautiful life. It’s a privilege to know you 🩵

I love March being a dedication to Mother’s.
I love that here in the UAE, we’ve been called the backbone of society - even officially named ‘Generation Shaper’? Did you read about that?

I’ve been thinking a lot lately, the sheer weight of it.
A Generation Shaper.
But in a world that feels so heavy?

More recently I have been thinking about what it means to raise a son.
How important it is that I raise a boy, who’s grows into a man who respects your daughters.

That my son is not raised on how to get by in a hard world, but raised to shape it into something better.

But then I pick up my camera.

And I see you.
The Generation Shaper.

I see the way you love your children. The way you play and laugh together. I see how thoughtful and gentle your children are towards you, their siblings and the nature around them.

And my heart settles. My worry for the world is calmed.

This generation we are raising, is going to be a good one.

Mums, my dear clients - you’ve been my inspiration for years. I’ve learnt so much of my own motherhood from watching and documenting all of you.

Thank you for stepping in front of my lens the way that you do. You’ve shaped Heath and I in ways you perhaps never knew ❤️

A slow season is upon us ❣️

Our homes have become our true sanctuary

There’s nothing like the newborn daze to remind us fully embrace a slow season.

And there’s nothing like a little life to remind us that, despite whatever is raging on in the world around us, life still happens. New sweet innocent beings join us every second on this earth. And what a true gift that is.

Capturing these precious memories of when your baby is welcomed Earth side is so special and something I am truly passionate about.

I’d like to honour this slow season we’re currently living through, and if the newborn days teach us anything, it’s that it’s fleeting and will not last forever.

If you’re welcoming your own little love soon, or if they’ve just arrived and you’d like to hold onto the memories from your newborn daze - I’d be honoured to step into your sanctuary to do this for you ❤️

Taking a moment to tune into things I love most about Dubai, our home 🌞

I know we are all feeling protective over this wonderful place we have had the privilege to call home, to build lives, businesses, families.

The past week has been very heavy on us all, and it’s easy to spiral when consuming the news.

So I’d like to take a moment to remind you all of the wonderful land we live in.

This is our Dubai - golden sun, golden sand - running barefoot & carefree through the dunes ✨

We’ll have it all back again soon ❣️
