One of the many fascinating details of the contemporary Mohamed Abdulkhaliq Gargash mosque in Al Quoz.

Designed by Sumaya Dabbagh of , It uses natural light and Islamic geometry reinterpretation to enhance the worshipper's connection with the divine.

It was completed in 2021, in the industrial heart of Dubai, and is one of the first mosques in the UAE to be designed by a woman.

The Peace of Wild Things

When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

A short term project assignment has been taking me to Abu Dhabi, but somehow I'm also inspired by different sites of architecture there. It has been only 2 years since my last visit, but it's the first time ever I've taken time to really explore and see things in an open new light and perspective. Also, I've been thirsty for architectural photography which helped to experience scenes differenty than my everyday sights.

Abu Dhabi is dramatically different than Dubai in its urban composition and infrastructure. While in Dubai, developments are mostly new and sparsely built apart, in Abu Dhabi the contrasts of old and new are merged and visible on every street and corner.
