“Birds of Cape Cod: Part 2”

The Least Tern (as discovered with the assistance of helpful redditors and apps like Merlin Bird ID and Apple photos) was by far the most interesting bird for me personally this Memorial Day weekend. Tiny, extremely aware of their surroundings and very difficult to get a photo of (at least for me; not a birder as such). It was fascinating to watch them dive bomb into the water to catch their morning meals.

Bringing the color right back into my feed with this post. I loved exploring London and Scotland. They turned out to be a lot more ‘gray’ than I’d expected thanks to the weather and (fantastic) architecture. This post from rural UK, in comparison seems to be pushing the saturation slider to +110!

This classic composition of the Millennium Bridge with St. Paul’s Cathedral was a high up on the list of shots I wanted wanted to capture during my trip last month.

This is a high foot traffic location and while I’m not one to include many people in my shots, I felt this composition demanded some human presence. A 1.3sec exposure blurred out the people just enough to keep them in the shot.

Jumping back to Edinburgh with the beautiful gothic structure - Scott Monument.

Long exposure shot of the Scott Monument on a rainy morning. I noticed droplets of rain on my filter after the shot. I’m quite happy with the effect it had on this shot.

Jumping on to London this Monday morning.

It was a fantastic experience reconnecting with my original photography love - long exposures; after almost 3 years. And getting this opportunity at a location as iconic as the Big Ben was the cherry on top. Do you know that the Big Ben stands at more than 96 metres (105yrds) tall, with 334 steps to climb up to the belfry and 399 steps to the Ayrton Light at the very top of the tower? 😃

❓Question for my photographer friends. Do you feel some lenses are inherently brighter (not really ‘faster’) than others? With my previous setup of Nikon D810 and F1.8 primes, a 6stop ND was plenty for 30-60sec exposures usually at a 7.1 - 9.0 aperture. For this (and a few other shots coming soon) I had to rely on a 10stop ND with apertures in the F11 region. I used a Nikon Z7ii with a 24-70 f2.8s lens here. Eager to hear what you think.
