Fridayfootprints - Friday 11th September 2026

Pause awhile!

Take the time to view the majesty of nature. Seeds sprouting, green leaves that unfurl and reach for the sky and the first roots emerge to seek out the nourishment that the soil has on offer.

If you listen closely, your imagination will hear songs of joy and triumph that the germination of new life brings.

Just as the virgin seed finds its ecstasy and peace in the spring of its life, so too does nature provide us with abundant opportunities to take root in the sights and sounds that our environment offers.

We just need to take the time to notice.

To pause awhile and wonder at the miracle of spring and the renewal of energy season after season.

Every excursion into each of our own wilderness’ are a chance to listen to hear the whispers of a timeless song that is sung to us. A song that reaches into our chore and brings us peace, joy and a sense of belonging.

Creation is our saving Grace!

Spring, a time that nature renews itself!

There is a feeling in the air, an atmosphere of joy! A time of preparation for both humanity and nature. Nests are being built, courtships pursued and the sounds of song fill the air.

Seeds are sprouting, leaves are unfurling, and bulbs are just coming into full bloom as spring's fragrance fills the air.

It is almost impossible to experience spring without nature’s character impacting our own mood and exuberance. And with the joy that spring brings, there is a chance for us to find a deeper peace and sense of calm.

Let the fragrant petals be Spring’s welcoming kiss to nature and renew your spirit as you experience the abundance of creation.

Fridayfootprints - Friday 28th August 2026

Nature is my ‘Peace’ Place.

A place where no words are spoken, yet the meaning of existence washes over me like a stream of contentment filled with bubbles of effervescent joy.

A wilderness where the artist's brushstrokes sweep across the background in broad swaths before filling in the finest detail with delicate, pinpoint touches and a steady hand. Colours and hues never imagined, and the sounds of birdsong echo through my soul.

To find this peace is to discover a spiritual fellowship unrivalled by humanity.

Nurtured and built without a single word being spoken, and the formation of a bond that nature asks us to honour in the protection of creation.

Nature is not only a Peace Place – it is a Peace Plan gifted from creation!

Fridayfootprints - Friday 21st August 2026

Nostalgia searches through the darkened corridors of my mind. Images and names, people and places that I yearn to recall remain hidden and I must dig for them. Yet the times and events I wish to forget rear their heads to the front of the queue.

Ageing hastens the need to recollect my material world. My own longing for a youth that lies spread through central and southern Africa is difficult to discern through the African heat haze in my brain.

I search for memories and friends to rekindle the past. For the ‘why’, the ‘how’, and the ‘what’, I traverse a long and winding road through the wilderness of my past in the hope that some familiar face will get a name or a name will bring a memory.

Yet, the longer I search, the more I realise that it is today that counts. The plans I make for tomorrow have already been shaped by my past. My experiences and dreams, bucket lists and emotions already appear in a plethora of notebooks and social media posts. They are my past brought into the future.

And through all this, there has been one constant. Through doubts and misgivings, misguided and misplaced, my faith and the presence of the Holy Spirit that dwells within me have never left me.

Once found, He has never left me. He waits patiently for my attention, although He may feel that our conversations are one-sided. Africa has taught me to listen to nature. It is the song of God performed by the choir of creation in sights and sounds that are the vibrations of the words I need to hear.

Nature brings me a peace within myself. His Peace, and I never have to dig for it!

Fridayfootprints - Friday 14th August 2026

The softened glow of candlelight
Mirrored flame to fight the night
Dancing shadows on the ground
Chasing dreams round and round.

There is comfort in a flame. From log fires on a cold winter’s night or to a campfire and a solo tent. A paraffin lamp in a farmhouse window to guide a husband home or a single candle in a shanty shack where a student learns against all odds.

The first time we gaze into the depths of a flame, no words are needed; in fact, silence is the prerequisite in the aura of the light. It is there in the embers of the flame and the spark showers that rise to meet the Milky Way that we can lose ourselves in thought and reflection.

Any flame will do! It only takes a hesitant gaze to trigger the feeling that light overcomes the darkness within us and the realization that there is no darkness that light cannot overcome.

Just one flame. One circle of light can achieve what nothing else can. A sense of peace, a touch of calm, and the chance to be lost in its presence. And it is in this light that we get the full view of nature: The canvas that God has painted. Once seen, it is enough to know that the light we seek is a light like no other.

And in that light, a chance to breathe in the aroma of God in the springtime of a light within us.

Fridayfootprints - Friday 7th August 2026

To Nicodemus:
"I am not African because I was born in Africa, but because Africa was born in me." (Kwame Nkrumah)

When you live in Africa, you do not become part of it; it becomes part of you. When you live in Christ, you do not become part of Him; rather He becomes part of you.
There is something profound about Africa, not just in its vistas and wildlife, but in its people, in its soil, rocks, and air.

To explore the roads that lie before us. To take in the majesty of all creation. To be part of a place that first saw Adam and Eve, and to experience our own journey through the wilderness of our existence, each to their own path or highway, but to know that the journey has a companion. Someone who does not just walk at our side, but walks within us, step for step.

And there is no better place to find Christ, and to have Him live inside you, than in Africa. A place that does justice to His majesty and the gift of Grace, Fellowship and Worship in creation’s cathedral.

Fridayfootprints - Fridat 31st July 2026

A little sunshine in the cold
A touch of warmth as bones grow old

A song I heard when I listened, still
‘Twas the voice of a lonely daffodil

And there I stopped to pass some time
Creation’s gift to me is Peace sublime.

A there for a moment the world was still
And all it took, was that Daffodil!

Fridayfootprints - Friday 24th July 2026

Words were never meant to be rushed.

Whispers were never meant to be silent.

Songs were meant for the soul to sing.

Paths were meant for footprints.

Where the shadows speak in silhouettes, and where a bubbling stream welcomes the dawn with its chorus. Where mountain ranges beckon, and the bushveld stretches the horizon, then my heart is filled as the power of creation lifts my spirits.

Even in my imagination, I can find such places where I seek fellowship with creation, and there I dwell ‘till the world interrupts my musings.

Nature speaks in slow words, leaf whispers, birdsong and paths that take us deeper until we discover the undiscoverable. Faith, Hope and love!

Fridayfootprints - Friday 17th July 2026

Life is a bouquet of roses!

It is not just one petal, one blossom, one vase.

As we stand on the threshold of nature. See all of it. Watch and understand how all the elements on view merge to create the whole vista.

Nature teaches us to see the broader picture, not just one tiny part of it. The sounds, the smell, the ambience, the meshing of one into another, and the interdependence. We zoom out to get the full picture; only then do we inspect each element in detail.

Faith is not one bible verse. Like nature, we need to take in the full vista. The timing, the sights and sounds, and mix those into our own human fears and frailties, dreams and ambitions, our hopes and failings, so that faith starts to mean something.

Look at the bouquet that nature presents and begin to understand the absolute miracle of creation that started from nothing into a gift from on high. Then take the time to stop ... take it all in ... and smell the roses.

Faith is like that!
