📷 **THROUGH MY LENS | WEEK 8** ✨

Sometimes the difference between an ordinary photograph and a beautiful one is simply **perspective.**

As photographers, we can become so used to taking photographs from the same position that we forget to move.

Take a step closer.
Step back.
Get lower.
Look from above.
Move to the side.

Suddenly, the same subject can tell a completely different story. 📸

One of my favourite things about photography is that there isn't always just **one right way** to capture something.

Your perspective becomes part of the photograph.

And sometimes, changing the way you look at something can change everything.

📸 **THIS WEEK'S CHALLENGE**

Choose one subject—a person, flower, building, pet, or even your morning coffee. ☕

Take **5 photographs from 5 different angles.**

Then look at them side by side.

Which angle tells the story best?

💬 **I'd love to know...**

Are you someone who normally photographs from the same position, or do you like experimenting with different angles?

Tell me in the comments! 👇❤️

Until next week... **keep looking for the stories that deserve to be remembered.**

📷 **THROUGH MY LENS | WEEK 7** ✨

Photography has taught me that **every person has a story worth telling.**

When someone stands in front of my camera, I don't just see a client.

I see someone's mother.
Someone's father.
Someone's child.
Someone celebrating a milestone.
Someone creating memories they'll treasure for years to come.

That's why I believe the best portraits aren't just technically good—they're honest.

A genuine smile will always outshine a forced pose.
A relaxed conversation will always create better photographs than telling someone to "say cheese."

One of my favourite parts of every session is watching people relax, laugh, and simply be themselves. That's when the magic happens.

📸 **This week's challenge:**

Photograph someone you love without asking them to pose.

Capture them doing something they enjoy, laughing, reading, cooking, playing, or simply being themselves.

You'll create more than a picture...

You'll preserve a memory.

💬 **I'd love to hear from you...**

If you could freeze **one moment** in your life forever, what would it be?

📷 **THROUGH MY LENS | WEEK 6** ✨

One of the greatest compliments a photographer can receive isn't...

*"What camera do you use?"*

It's hearing someone say:

**"You captured us exactly as we are."** ❤️

Photography is so much more than taking beautiful pictures. It's about preserving genuine emotions, meaningful connections, and moments that can never be recreated.

The best photographs are often the ones that weren't perfectly planned.

A child laughing.
A couple sharing a quiet glance.
A proud parent watching from the sidelines.
A grandparent holding a tiny hand.

Those moments are real, and that's what makes them unforgettable.

As photographers, our job isn't just to create beautiful images—it's to tell stories that people will treasure for years to come.

📸 **This week's challenge:**

This week, don't ask anyone to pose.

Instead, spend a few minutes simply observing.

Capture a real laugh.
A natural smile.
A quiet moment.

You'll be amazed at the emotion you can preserve.

💬 **I'd love to hear from you...**

What's your favourite candid photograph you've ever taken—or had taken of you?

📷 **THROUGH MY LENS | WEEK 5** ✨

One of the biggest lessons photography has taught me is that **details matter.**

When we're focused on the main subject, it's easy to overlook what's happening around it. But the smallest details can either enhance a photograph or distract from the story you're trying to tell.

Before pressing the shutter, take a moment to pause and look around.

✨ Is the background clean?
✨ Is there anything growing out of someone's head?
✨ Are there distractions that could be removed by changing your position?
✨ Does the image draw your eye to the subject?

Sometimes, taking just one step to the left or right can make all the difference.

Photography has taught me to slow down, observe, and appreciate the little things—and that lesson has carried over into everyday life too.

📸 **This week's challenge:**

Find one subject and take two photographs:
📷 The first without checking the background.
📷 The second after carefully looking at every detail around your subject.

Compare the two images and notice how the small changes improve the final result.

💬 **I'd love to hear from you...**

Have you ever taken what you thought was the perfect photo, only to notice something distracting afterwards? What was it?

📷 **THROUGH MY LENS | WEEK 4** ✨

A beautiful photograph isn't always about having the most expensive camera or the latest equipment.

Often, it's about **how you see the world.**

Composition is what guides the viewer's eye through an image. It helps turn an ordinary scene into a photograph that tells a story.

Before you press the shutter, take a moment to pause.

Ask yourself:
✨ What is my subject?
✨ What story am I trying to tell?
✨ Is there anything distracting in the background?

Sometimes taking one step to the left or right, changing your angle, or getting a little closer can completely transform a photograph.

Photography has taught me to slow down and notice the little details that others might miss—and those details often become the most memorable part of the image.

📸 **This week's challenge:**

Take one subject and photograph it from three different angles:
• Standing
• Kneeling
• Up close

Compare the images and see how each perspective changes the story.

💬 **I'd love to know...**

Have you ever taken a photo that surprised you because changing your angle made all the difference?

**FACES OF STRENGTH | Meet Lee-Ann Schoeman Rooi, ROOI BLOMME**

Life can change in an instant.

At the age of 40, Lee-Ann Schoeman Rooi faced one of life's greatest heartbreaks when she lost her husband. Suddenly, she found herself not only grieving the loss of her partner but also carrying the responsibility of raising three children on her own.

With her eldest son studying, her middle son in Matric, and a five-year-old daughter who still needed her mother, Lee-Ann had no choice but to become both Mom and Dad, all while working full-time.

She admits that she had to pick herself up, face the hurt, and overcome the bitterness that came with losing the person she had planned to spend her life with.

Today, her greatest source of strength is her children.

Looking at how far they have come, and everything they have overcome together, reminds her every morning why she continues to keep going.

Her message to anyone who is struggling is one of compassion and hope.

She believes that our deepest pain can become our greatest teacher. It teaches us empathy, gives us the courage to keep our hearts soft despite betrayal, hurt, and loss, and reminds us that kindness is still a choice—even after life has broken us.

To Lee-Ann, strength is so much more than simply surviving.

It is choosing growth over bitterness.

It is becoming resilient enough to bend without breaking, learning to set healthy boundaries, and having the courage to face your emotions instead of hiding from them.

She believes that overcoming pain teaches us one of life's greatest lessons: while we cannot control what happens to us, we can choose how we respond. Through resilience, wisdom, forgiveness, and emotional independence, we discover a strength we never knew we had.

Lee-Ann's journey reminds us that even after unimaginable loss, healing is possible. With courage, faith, and love, we can rebuild a life filled with purpose, proving that our greatest strength is often found in the moments we thought we would never survive.
