Some weddings just feel like home, and this was one of them. 🍊

Back in Kirkwood, one of our hometowns, surrounded by rows of orange and lemon trees as far as the eye can see, literal perfect weather with soft winter sun and not a hint of wind in sight. The kind of day every photographer dreams of!

And to top it all off, Liezel and Tyler are the most down to earth people who made our jobs so easy. Just geniune, kind people who makes everyone around them feel welcome. Throw in amazing hospitality, the best atmosphere, and a venue that's an absolute gem, and you've got a wedding we'll be thinking about for a long time.

A few weeks ago we had the honour of photographing our very first couple from the USA as they travelled across the world to elope at the breathtaking De Beer Safari Lodge. 🦓

Under the golden South African winter sun surrounded by lots of different animals and some of the most beautiful landscapes we've ever photographed, it was a day we'll never forget. Not only was the scenery stunning,, but so were the people. Hannah was quite possibly one of the most relaxed brides we've ever met and the hospitality we got from the lodge was incredible. Sharing delicious food together around the fire, laughing and chatting between photos and just enjoying every moment with the couple felt super special to us.

Thank you Hannah and Dylan for trusting us to tell your story. We hope you're settling back into life in the states with memories you'll treasure forever. We can't wait to eventually share your full album with you!

And to the amazing team at De Beer Safari Lodge, thank you for making us feel so welcome. We can't wait for the next adventure together! 🤍

This wedding changed my perspective.

Every wedding we photograph means something to me, but standing behind the camera for my business partner and best friend's wedding... That was something I'll never be able to truly put into words.

Before the planning started, Duané asked me if I wanted to photograph her wedding, she said she doesn't want me to feel obliged and she would be perfectly happy either way. She never assumed. She never expected. She simply gave me the option. And looking back now, I think that question was one of the greatest acts of respect she could have shown me as a friend. 🥹 But the truth is, from the moment she got engaged, I already knew that I would love to take her wedding photos, for me it wasn't even a discussion.

Driving to the venue that morning felt different. Usually it's the two of us in the car, chatting all the way to another couple's wedding. This time, I was driving alone, knowing I was about to witness one of her big "life" moments... I cried the entire drive there... Which is definitely a first for me.

When I arrived, Duané was still in her pj's, about to get ready. She was excited, nervous, emotional... and so was I. But she trusted me entirely. She never worried about the photos or directed every moment. Honestly, I don't think she would've minded if the camera disappeared for half the day. She was fully invested in her people, her husband, her day.

One moment that mattered deeply to her was seeing her dad for the first look. And because I knew how much that moment meant to her, it became one of the most important parts for me to protect. It was so meaningful. This made me realise that every bride has different moments that carry the most weight on their day.

Weddings aren't really about the photos. They're about experiencing moments. The photographs simply become the way we hold onto them.

Duané, thank you for trusting me with your heart. Being the person who got to witness your day and turn those moments into memories you can hold onto forever will always be one of the greatest honours of my career. 🤍

Our first time in Katberg and we genuinely thought we were a little lost on the way in. The road felt so quiet and barren… and then we passed the security gates and it turned into a lush green little world that didn’t feel real. 😍

Double rainbows, soft mist on the wedding day, and the clearest sunny goodbye on Sunday. A little piece of heaven on earth. Thank you so much for having us Ashleigh and Brett! 🤍
