I have to express my serious disappointment with the current state of the visitor facilities at Storms River Mouth in Tsitsikamma National Park.

The “new restaurant” has apparently been in the pipeline for nine years, yet visitors are still being served from shipping containers. For one of South Africa’s most iconic national parks and a major international tourism destination, this is simply not good enough.

What concerns me even more is the parking and access arrangements for day visitors using the new and improved suspension bridges. The parking area at the restaurant has extremely limited capacity — reportedly only around 20 vehicles — while buses have a separate parking area that presents its own challenges.

This is not just an inconvenience. It directly affects the visitor experience, accessibility and safety, particularly when tour groups, families, elderly visitors and international guests are arriving.

As someone involved in tourism, I would genuinely love to bring my guests to Tsitsikamma and Storms River Mouth. It is an extraordinary part of our country and deserves to be showcased.

But after my experience there today, I have to question whether I can confidently bring paying guests into an environment where the basic visitor infrastructure does not appear to match the standard expected of a world-class national park.

Nine years is a very long time to wait for promised improvements.

SANParks, surely it is time for some accountability, transparency and action. Visitors — and the tourism businesses that bring them here — deserve better.

— please tell us what is happening, when the restaurant and associated facilities will actually be completed, and what is being done in the meantime to address the parking and safety concerns.

This is not about attacking . It is about asking for better standards at one of South Africa's most important tourism destinations.

A sincere thank you to Stof-fel Tours and Martyn Hill for the waiter training provided to our team at Addo Wildlife.
The training has given our staff valuable insight into what it means to provide exceptional service — from being more attentive to tables and guests, to understanding the importance of anticipating a guest’s needs rather than simply responding to them.
One of the most valuable lessons was learning how to upsell in a natural and professional way. This isn't only about increasing restaurant sales; it is about understanding our guests, knowing what we have to offer, and being able to recommend experiences, activities and attractions in the wider Addo area.
Our guests come to Addo not just for a meal, but for an experience. By being knowledgeable about what is happening around us and what visitors can see and do in the area, our staff can become true ambassadors for Addo and the Eastern Cape.
