Stephan van Wyk - Artist Profile

Stephan van Wyk is a multifaceted creative with a zest for life. He's not just a Communication Designer, Photographer, and all-around creative guy – he's the brains behind Rokkitboy Creative Labs, a vibrant design studio tucked away in the enchanting haven of Plettenberg Bay. He graduated with top honours in 2006 with a B-Tech degree in Communication Design from

Tshwane University of Technology. In the same year, he embarked on a nine-month escapade to Germany, representing his University as an exchange student at the at the Fachhochschule Trier. That adventure was a game-changer, shaping his artistic outlook in many ways. Stephan's canvas of choice? Life itself, as seen through the lens of his camera. He loves to capture human stories, emotions, and those moments that take your breath away. He firmly believes that beauty is everywhere around us; we just need to pause and appreciate it. Stephan is an artistic explorer, constantly pushing the boundaries of his creativity through various styles and techniques. Yet, his heart truly belongs to capturing the essence of landscapes and nature through photography. From wildlife to architectural wonders and sweeping aerial vistas, he's always chasing the perfect shot. Not only in his capacity as a commercial events and portrait photographer, but also in everyday moments of life. In 2018, Stephan won Bronze at the Afrisam/ZeitzMOCCA photographic competition. Notably, three other works also shortlisted as finalist pieces for the competition and formed part of the "ConCreativity" group exhibition at the Zeitz MOCAA Museum of Contemporary African Art in Cape Town, from October 27, 2018, to February 28, 2019. Adding to his accolades, Stephan also won first prize at the Landscape DSLR photography category at the Annual SANParks Photography competition in 2018.

The announcement of the new Louvain Burn Music & Arts Festival dates — and early bird tickets going live — has me reminiscing about the magic we shared in the forest last winter.

Golden light filtering through the trees.
Music drifting across the valley.
Late-night firelight.
Connection, creativity, and that unmistakable Burn energy.

Here are a few moments I captured at the Winter Edition in August — a beautiful gathering of friends and like-minded souls in one of the Garden Route’s most special settings.

For those who’ve been waiting:
🔥 4–7 September 2026

A Community United for Conservation: 11 African Penguins Released

We are thrilled to report the successful release of 11 African Penguins at Lookout Beach, Plettenberg Bay, on Sunday, 7 Dec 2025.

Rescued locally, these birds underwent weeks of specialised rehabilitation at Tenikwa Wildlife Rehabilitation and Awareness Centre. Once declared fit for release—and after waiting for the perfect ocean conditions—they finally returned to the wild. This success highlights the vital network of conservation partners working tirelessly to protect our marine wildlife.

The African Penguin is currently listed as Critically Endangered. With populations in steep decline, the conservation of each individual bird is paramount. Every successful release bolsters the breeding population and offers a glimmer of hope for the species' survival.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the members of the public who supported the event and the generous donors who contributed via Birdlife Plettenberg Bay. Your support directly funds the rescue and rehabilitation of these wild birds.

I can’t help but feel nostalgic every Women’s Day weekend. For years, this was the time when thousands of people would gather in the Northam dust bowl for the legendary OppiKoppi Music Festival. The festival shaped so much of who I am that the feeling of nostalgia is impossible to shake. I feel incredibly privileged to have been alive to experience it.

These photos are from the last OppiKoppi I attended — I think it was in 2014 — Oppikoppi Odyssey, the 20th anniversary edition. What a line-up, and what an honour it was to have a press pass and shoot right from the pit.

I was incredibly fortunate to witness Raptor Rescue Plett release a Forest Buzzard back into the wild recently after receiving treatment and rehab. Each raptor released back into the wild is a conservation success story. Don't forget to support Raptor Rescue Plett by making a donation or by visiting the rehab facility, where you can also experience the incredible flight displays.

I had such a cool encounter with a curious octopus in a rock pool at Robberg Nature Reserve a few weeks ago. The little guy kept on trying to grab my GoPro. Watch how quickly it changes colour and blends in with its surroundings. Nature will never cease to amaze me.
