A day where we just popped down to visit the small quaint seaside holiday town of Mtwalume.
Very popular fishing area but all quiet at the moment as fishermen wait in anticipation for the sardines and their entourage to arrive.
AND YES 🙌, we spotted our first whale, bit far out but we saw it cruising by.

•Hluhluwe•KwaZulu Natal•

Between Hluhluwe and Sodwana Bay along the R22 is this beautiful green stretch of road lined with one of my favourite African thorn trees…the fabulous Fever Trees.

Known for their luminous, powdery yellow-green bark, early European settlers named it the “fever tree” because they mistakenly believed it caused malaria but in reality, the tree simply thrives in the swampy, low-lying habitats where mosquitoes breed.

After spending 15 days in the coastal bush and doing loads of bundu bashing exploring, we finally packed up our tent at Mabibi Beach Camp and started heading home to Scottburgh.
The first bit of civilisation town we passed was the small town of Mbazwana which serves as a gateway to eco-tourism destinations like Sodwana Bay, Kosi Bay and Tembe Elephant Park.
This village use to have basically nothing but the hub has sure grown with more shops and businesses.

Driving on sandy roads between Kosi Bay and Mabibi and getting lost a few times definitely made the chaos of the drive more adventurous and scenic.
And not once did we get stuck especially with some of the big puddles we had to go through.

•Mabibi Beach Camp•KwaZulu Natal•

One of the best things about wild camping at is when you just chilling on your camp ‘stoep’ and these cool little visitors pop around. We also had samango monkeys and vervet monkeys flittering around in the trees above, the mongooses scampering around and then of course the birds chirped some sweet sounds on the nature hit parade 😄

•Mabibi•KwaZulu Natal•

Well this was a lost and lucky find moment.
4x4ing our way to Mabibi Camp from Kosi Bay, we crossed a few deep puddles and somewhere along the way our front number plate got bumped off.
Well we only noticed the next day at Lake Sibaya that it was gone.
Anyway 2 days later we on our way to Lala Nek and come across a random ‘intersection’, so I look at the signs to see if there is a sign to say we on the right track to Lala Nek Beach and trues bob, there is our number plate that obviously someone had found and placed it in the bush.
Sometimes you have to get lost to find others things you lose 😄.

•Manzengwenya Beach•KwaZulu Natal•

After an amazing morning snorkelling and chilling at Lala Nek Beach, we did a quick snoop about around Manzengwenya Beach before heading back to our camp at Mabibi.

One private section of the beach was once a primary research and monitoring area especially for turtles and the ecology of marine and coastal life…apparently it’s still in use hosting research facilities and camps managed by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife as a field base for university students and marine biologists.
