As the hours tick down to the new year, I look at my aging face with appreciation...
Like most women, my default is to see the flaws.
But the older I get, the more acceptance I notice in my response.
Especially around this time of year when the depth of appreciation cuts like a knife to the chest when I think of those who will never celebrate another new year.
Not realising that the last new year celebration was to be their last.
This reminder makes me appreciate that I GET to celebrate the dawning of a new year. I GET to grow another year older. I GET to see my features change with the gift that is age.
Most importantly, I GET to connect with my loved ones across the seas and wish them a healthy and happy year. How blessed to be this age and be able to click a button that connects me directly with the people I love most in the world, regardless of time zones and physical location.
Moments in time captured like this one spark a living "flash before my eyes" bolt of realisation of just how much there is to be grateful for. Regardless of the outcome of the trivialities we get caught up on, there is already so much to be thankful for.
In these moments, we have an opportunity to acknowledge that in the grand scheme of things - on a universal level, everything always has been, is now and will always be well.
May this coming year be the year that we remind ourselves daily of this truth and implement it into our everyday experience.
Grateful for all that 2022 brought us. This time last year, we had no idea what a difference 365 days would make.
May our 1-year-from-now selves have much to celebrate.
Here's to a year of personal evolution.
