We set off shortly after sunrise, with the crisp Eastern Cape air reminding us that the best adventures begin when the world is still quiet.

As we climbed Rooiberg Mountain, every step revealed another incredible view, but one moment stood above the rest. Hidden beneath an ancient rock shelter, we discovered remarkable San rock art, a quiet reminder that people have been leaving their stories in these mountains for generations. The Eastern Cape is home to thousands of San rock art sites, some dating back hundreds, and in many cases thousands, of years, offering a remarkable window into the lives, beliefs and traditions of southern Africa’s first inhabitants.

After spending time admiring this extraordinary piece of history, we continued the climb to the summit of Rooiberg, standing approximately 1,582 metres above sea level. The panoramic views across the Eastern Cape made every step worthwhile.

The hike back down gave us time to reflect on the day. Places like Rooiberg remind us that the greatest journeys are about far more than reaching the top. They’re about the people you’re with, the stories you discover and the memories you take home.

Yesterday we spent the day exploring the magnificent Otto du Plessis Pass in the Eastern Cape.

Standing amongst these mountains was a reminder that some of life’s greatest moments aren’t measured by where you arrive, but by the journey itself.

That’s the reason Safari Heritage Albums was created. To ensure that adventures like these don’t remain forgotten on a phone or hard drive, but become something tangible that can be enjoyed for generations.

Otto du Plessis Pass is one of the ten legendary mountain passes that make up South Africa's famous Ben 10 Eco Challenge.

Yesterday we had the privilege of experiencing it for ourselves.
