Early morning fog - captured on IPhone

I woke up to a beautiful sunrise (one of the few perks of winter) and grabbed my phone to capture the moment, but as I tapped the button a sneaking fog has descended within a flash, and this is the shot I got. It has a dreamy quality and somehow captures what my life feels like right now. Foggy, confusing, frustrating, unclear, uncertain, yet there is beauty and clarity just a breath away.

Cape Hare - Captured on Canon R5 at Wedderwill

I was driving home after a lovely day shooting at Vergelegen for their annual competition, it was dusk, the sun almost completely gone and my headlights automatically turned on, when this beautiful hare dashed out from the brush on the left and sat right in front of my car. I reached for my camera which was conveniently out of the bag on the passenger seat. He immediately started to bolt, but running ahead of me, so I drove forward. It was impossible to capture anything but a blur of grey fur. Then he hopped up the verge and sat staring at me with his enormous, anxious eyes, twitching his ears, but sitting still. I got this shot. Thanks to the super high ISO on my newer Canon I was able to capture something, noisy and imperfect, but a special encounter with this wild creature remembered forever.

I bumped into the herd munching on some fynbos on my evening walk. They seem to be thriving in this environment with foals being born each spring. I have to pinch myself on occasions like this and am reminded of how lucky I am to live in such a place.

Young Coot captured on Canon R5

I was searching through my database of images and came across literally hundreds of images I’ve not even looked at let alone edited after uploading and storing.

It’s a journey through time, looking back on past captures, taking me to the very moment I spotted the bird, animal or scene. But I can’t help feeling sad that all these moments and beautiful images stay trapped in zeroes and ones, condemned to invisibility, hidden, stripped of everything that makes photography meaningful. I’m grateful for the opportunity to share here on social media where they can be appreciated beyond just my nostalgia for a fleeting moment.
