DARIUS & ANJA (Wedding Ceremony & Reception) 🎊⛪️
This was so special, the groom's emotion, reaction to his bride entering and their vows for one another was truly something wonderful to witness! Their entrance into the reception hall had the look and feel of a celebrity couple on the red carpet and wow did their guests enjoy this wedding! The bride's dad had a speech which really tugged at your heart's strings.

Oom Phillip, ons is ook regtig bly oor die valentyn's chocolates!

We had so much fun witnessing their dances and the groom's brother, his wife and their uncle making waves on the dancefloor! And I am yet to witness a bride that enjoyed her music more than this lady!

They also had the well-known Fourie Ackermann painting a stunning canvas of the couple session right there during the pre-drinks. When you book your wedding photography & videography with us, you also get to book his art for your wedding, a truly unique and remarkable way to capture something special of your wedding day!

Thank you so much Darius and Anja for choosing us to capture this most special day of yours! May your marriage be a testimony of the goodness of God and may your love for one another abound always!

DARIUS & ANJA (Getting Ready) 💍🎊
The moments before the wedding, when nerves are usually high in anticipation of one of the biggest moments in a person's life, are a very special element of wedding photography. This couple was so stunning to work with, the bride spontaneous and kind, friendly and content, and the groom, sensitive, and so loving towards his bride! The groomsmen were ready with a joke for every moment; we found them so entertaining, and what a joy it was to capture these special moments! Thank you so much Darius & Anja, what a privilege to share in your special day!

Let's talk: Choosing a photographer (Part 3 of 3)

5. Can I see your gallery/get references/have a meeting?
- With recent photographer disappointment hitting so many brides, it's really important to make sure you have a good idea of what you can expect in terms of skill and style.
- Meeting upfront with your photographer is also very important, even if it's via video meeting. Knowing that they will be the actual person capturing your wedding is very important and having a contract is imperative to protecting yourself and the photographer. In the meeting you'll also get a good feeling of whether you're comfortable with them as a person and what their integrity looks like in terms of punctuality. A contract would also commit to a timeframe for delivery, removing all of the guess work.
- When you speak to actual couples who've used the photographer and look at their gallery sent to you by the couple themselves, ask about experience etc, you'll get a good idea what you can be expecting. Do make sure their wedding was quite recent, no more than 6 months ago.

6. How many weddings have you got on your schedule, how regularly are you shooting?
- Are you shooting a wedding every weekend without proper time to put effort and time into meticulous editing and having to contract in other photographers to shoot the wedding or someone else to edit your images. Going with a high volume photographer might lead to disappointment.

7. When will I receive my edited images/video? This is a point that should be clearly set out in the contract, as this removes the guessing game for brides, manages expectations and avoids unnecessary disappointment later on. Our personal lead time for brides are: For photo-only bookings: 8 weeks, for photo & video combos: 12 weeks.

At Light and Virtue, we are a husband-and-wife team that have been in photography for more than 10 years but only decided to start doing it as a profession just over 2 years ago, which explains 700 followers. We also only take a limited number of weddings per year to ensure we have enough time for proper editing while also valuing family life. We have the same gear and image quality of photographers charging about double to triple what we do, just because they have 10k or more followers. Let that not be your determining factor for choosing a wedding photographer. Take the points above into consideration and then, ask the hard questions. Can I just make my decision based on budget or followers? Because there are many photographers charging very little but consider the fact that it's a once-in-a-lifetime moment. Entrust this very special task to someone you can trust and feel comfortable with, as well as whose style and skill match what you have in mind for your memories.

Let's talk: Choosing your Photographer (Part 2 of 3)

2. What backup gear and protocols do you have?
- What if the shutter gets stuck? (that actually happened to us while shooting this wedding). What if you drop the camera? What if someone throws their champagne onto your camera. No problem your honour. We both have two professional cameras. Not one moment missed.

3. What do you use for light?
- We have seen many photographers rocking up at a wedding not using flash. Light is everything in photography and yes, there is a case where natural light is preferred, but don't you think the softness on the bride's face is just perfect with a flash used with a diffuser (or fill-flash)? Using only natural light can result in images where the background is super bright (overexposed) to allow enough light to enter your camera to light up the subject, or it can create terrible shadows on a person's face. Image quality is not the same without the use of proper light.

4. What editing software do you use?
- Editing plays such a key role in wedding photography. This is where a photographer has the ability to create their unique personal style. You change light, shadows, colour and much, much more. We make use of Lightroom and sometimes add some touches in Photoshop.

Let's talk: Choosing your photographer (Part 1 of 3)

There's something that's been needing discussion long time ago. So, let's talk about it (and this super creamy dreamy image!)
It seems that anyone and everyone who owns a camera is becoming a photographer nowadays and for those having to choose the right photographer, it can become quite a daunting task with so many to choose from and the pricing ranging from below R10k to over R40k for a wedding. What is really the difference and how do you know whom to entrust this incredibly special task of capturing your most special day?

Well, let's start asking the right questions.
1. What camera are you using and which lenses do you pair it with?
- Here's the deal, a camera can have great functions (hoping that it is full-frame), but a kit lens won't get you these soft backgrounds.

Why? It's all about depth of field, i.e. how deep is the camera is focussing. More expensive lenses have the ability to create a shallow a depth of field, having your couple in focus and everything else fading in the background (or foreground), creating the effect that it's just them, their moment, perfect. If your photographer is using a F1.4 lens, especially around 75-85mm, you can know that you will probably achieve these creamy images (this particular image was taken with an 85mm F1.4 lens). F1.8 lenses can create some nice blur too, although not as creamy, at around 20% of the cost. Photographers also need zoom lenses to get those close ups of exchanging rings and wider-angle lenses for showing the entire setup, then a few prime lenses are essential for proper portraits. We see hundreds of wedding images that are taken with cheap lenses, focussing to infinity and beyond and really, everything is shouting for your attention. It cannot be considered professional.

Part 2 of 3 coming tomorrow!

DARIUS & ANJA Wedding Golden Hour💍🥰
Golden Hour, every photographer loves this time of day for that soft sunlight that has a golden glow to it. A great lens and a warm-romantic editing style combined with this couple's Wedding attire and the love they share, makes me want to stare at the screen for a little while longer! Had such a wonderful time working with this couple!

ADEON & CARLA (Wedding - Golden Hour)
It's a little bit of ride from the venue to this spectacular spot where the Light House, the ocean and the beautiful Fynbos are all visible in one location, and we knew this spot would provide the perfect backdrop to capture this elegant couple. They were happy to hop into our bus and travel the bumpy gravel road to get here. Witnessing their love for one another and the connection they share was very special. Enjoyed working with these two!

ADEON & CARLA (Ceremony & Reception)💍🎊
Here's some ceremony and reception moments, my favourite being them praying together. Lots of dancing, their first dance, father-daughter dance and the groom dancing with his two sisters (a video of that coming later...) They had fun games and even auctioned shaving the groom's beard, any way the winner liked, and they sure had a lot of fun! Such a lovely couple to work with, I can describe them with a few Afrikaans words - VERSKRIKLIK ORENTLIK en VOL PRET!
