This is another pretty cuckoo and a common sound in the bush - the Diederick Cuckoo! Do you agree that we always hear them, but often so hard to see!? I was very lucky to see a few of them in December at the Pilanesberg National Park and other parks in recent visits. They are often too far away and as they are small birds the photos don't do them any justice if taken from far. This one rested briefly in a tree right in front of me as I sat alone in the Malatse Dam Hide. What a treat!

It is always good to get to leave the studio and get into the wildlife scene! A bird that we all hear so often, but never see - the "Piet My Vrou" or Red Chested Cuckoo! We spent a wonderful weekend at Finfoot Lake Reserve near Pilanesberg! What a wonderful place for birding! In the drizzling rain, I finally got my photo of a Red Chested Cuckoo! It has been an ambition of mine to photograph all the cuckoos in South Africa! So far I have manged to photograph only 3. A long way to go, I know....
