DRAGONS STILL DWELL AMOUNG US! 😱 A local resident spotted this ancient mystical reptilian creature—attempting to invade their home in Dullstroom. A strikingly beautifully marked, large Puffadder (Bitis arietans). They're super rare at this altitude 2000 m+. I was called in to safely remove it, and these close-up shots reveal its magic: piercing yellow eyes with vertical slit pupils, armored scaled head, and flared dragon-like nostrils. Africa's deadliest snake by bite numbers, - potent cytotoxic venom, - lightning-fast strikes but relatively slow-moving, — beautifully camouflaged to be treated with caution and respect, just so majestic!
Released unharmed in a nearby Nature Reserve. Who's encountered one? 🐍✨

Spent a wonderful week on the banks of the Crocodile river, close to Malelane. We managed to fit in two days trips into Kruger National Park. Apart from having to shut my mind to the plethora of OSV's (Open Safari Vehicles) We had some amazing sightings.
This magnificent leopard was extremely tolerant, and a very effective hunter judging buy his condition. Keeping him tree bound and perking his interest every now and again, were two lions slinking around in the bushes

Another amazing outing with Friends of Verloren Valei Nature Reserve, into remote corners of the Steenkampsberg. A new Orchid for me. The Grassveld Blue or Disa baurii, one of the few early pre-rain flowering Grass or Terrestrial Orchids. Thanks to Frans Krige

Its one of those rare days in Kruger National Park, when you drive up to a waterhole and there only a few cars. A pair of magnificent mating Lions are staring at you from across the other side of the pan. You know what's going to happen, but will they be shy and retreat to the bushes or will they be exhibitionists.

Driving through the Verloren Valei Nature Reserve in the Steenkampsberg last week I stopped to photograph the yellow Gazanias that are starting to come up. A small gray butterfly caught my attention, and I followed it around trying to get a photo or two. When it landed on the stunning, minute Crassula, that I have not come across before. The butterfly was identified by Jeremy Dobson, and I managed to find the Crassula on Inaturalist.
Butterfly = Leptomyrina henningi, Hennings Black-eye.
Plant= Crassula compacta
To give one some perspective, the plant is about 35-40 mm high

For the Bridge, Bird and Wine club ladies whom I had the pleasure of guiding around Verloren Valei recently. I have commented on each flower and given the Family names genus and species. If you require any further information, you are welcome to contact me. Thank you for allowing me to show you this amazing piece of heaven.

On a recent trip into Verloren Valei in the Steenkampsberg, while stopping for a coffee break with guests. I wondered off a short distance and came across a line of flowers of the Carnation Family,
Dianthus mooienses (Species yet to be confirmed) On one side of the line the flowers were completely white, then there was a clump of hybrid flowers (pink & white) and then flowers that were pure pink. Most amazing.
