Wanneer die dorp nog slaap
staan hy reeds by die see.
Met koue hande, moรซ oรซ
en โ€™n gebed wat niemand hoor nie.

Hy vaar uit in die donker,
waar die golwe groter is as sy drome.
Nie vir geld nie,
nie vir roem nie
maar omdat daar mense by die huis is
wat op hom wag.

Die see gee hom nie altyd vis nie,
maar hy gee altyd sy beste.

Hy kom soms huis toe
met โ€™n leรซ boot
en โ€™n hart vol bekommernis.
Tog glimlag hyโ€ฆ
want hy wil hรช sy kinders moet glo
dat mรดre beter sal wees.

Mense sien die vis wat hy bring.
Min mense sien die man wat hy verloor
in die koue, die wind en die golwe.

Want elke visserman dra โ€™n storie
wat nie op sy boot geskryf staan nie
maar in sy growwe hande
sy stil trane
en die moegheid in sy oรซ.

Hy gaan see toe om brood huis toe te bring,
maar soms betaal hy daarvoor
met stukke van sy eie hart.
