Tanya Gomez Photography I received my first camera at the age of 14, but never considered a career in photography.

I had my own plans for my life and career, but the universe had other plans for me, and yet, no matter what I did, all roads eventually led back to photography. So here I am through trial & error, honesty & integrity and [still] lots of learning, I feel that my style is becoming more apparent reflecting this authenticity. I'm passionate about people photography, especially wedding photography, followed closely by newborn, maternity and family portraits.

I enjoy cooking, but if I'm honest, I probably enjoy feeding the people I love even more.

These homemade rolls are a family favourite, and seeing everyone reach for one while they're still warm from the oven makes the effort worthwhile.

The rolls don't last long, but the memories created around the table do. 💛

Proof that squad photos should never be an afterthought.

I love being asked to do squad photos. They have a completely different feel.

The energy changes completely.
The nerves disappear.
And suddenly everyone is giving full magazine editorial energy without even trying. 😂

Over the years, I’ve photographed so many different groups — different personalities, different styles, different friendships — but the one thing that always stays the same is how much these photos end up meaning later.

Because matric dance isn’t only about the outfits or the venue. It’s also about who you shared the moment with.

The laughs between poses.

The confidence boost from your friends hyping you up.

The chaos of trying to get everyone looking in the same direction at the same time. 😂

These are the photos that become memories.

So if you’re planning your matric dance, this is your reminder to make time for the squad shots too. Trust me… years later, you’ll still love them.

Soft details, tiny fingers and the sweetest little features — newborn sessions will always have my heart.

My newborn sessions are always guided gently and naturally, beginning with simple beanbag posing before moving into family, parent and sibling images. Props are usually the final part of a session, carefully styled to complement your baby without taking away from those tiny details and precious early moments.

For this setup, the soft mint tones and delicate textures created such a timeless, peaceful feel — simple, fresh and full of warmth.
These early days pass far too quickly, but photographs allow you to hold onto them just a little longer.

As someone who plans every shoot carefully… this story did not go according to plan 😅

Chloe-Ann’s graduation session was right at the end of the day — the final graduation slot of the afternoon. I’ve realised over the years that the preparation going into a shoot allows me to relax and enjoy the unexpected moments too.

We decided to take a quick shortcut through one of the buildings — which, in hindsight, is probably not something to attempt at the end of the day on campus 😅

Naturally, we got distracted when we spotted an open lecture room and realised it would make the perfect backdrop for a few extra photos. What could possibly go wrong?

Only once we were done did we realise we had somehow managed to lock ourselves inside the building.

Thankfully, someone stayed calm enough to contact campus security, who eventually came to rescue us.

And honestly, I love moments like these.

A little reminder that even with the best planning, not everything is within our control — and sometimes the unexpected moments become part of the adventure too. 💝🌸

I’m a planner by nature, especially when it comes to my shoots.

Preparedness calms me down. Over the years, it’s become one of my greatest strengths behind the camera — walking into a session with a clear vision, while still leaving room for creativity.

This matric dance session from last year looked a little different though. We worked entirely on location with limited time, and instead of my usual setup beforehand, I had to lean into what the venue naturally offered us.

The bar area, warm lighting, textures and mood of the space ended up shaping the session in the best possible way.

And honestly… I loved it.

Sometimes the best images happen when you stop looking for the perfect setup and start seeing what’s already there.

Matric dance season may still feel far away for some, but dates do tend to fill up quickly — especially for on-location sessions like these. If you’d like to start planning your session, you’re welcome to get in touch.

Happy 79th birthday to my beautiful mom. ❤️

Growing up, my parents worked so hard for us. My dad was the slightly stricter parent, while my mom brought so much warmth, fun and creativity into our everyday lives.

One of my favourite memories is of her washing the floors while placing us in a cardboard box — or maybe a baby bath — pretending we were sailing in a boat while she pushed us around the house. 😅

To us, it was magic.
To her, it was probably just the most efficient way to get things done with children underfoot.

She made ordinary moments feel special.
I’ve yet to meet someone who enjoys their birthday more....except perhaps Hannah. 😂

She spent the morning telling everyone at the restaurant — and later at the shops — that it was her birthday and that they should sing to her. 🤣

Well, today is all about her, and she’s going to make sure we celebrate it. 😉

We were without electricity for almost 24 hours, and this was meant to be last night’s dinner 😅.

I was cold, tired and slightly miserable… but we made it through.
