It was fun. It was easy. It was them, completely themselves.

There’s something special about matric farewell season…

Had the absolute pleasure of photographing a young man stepping into one of life’s big moments and what a day it was. From the excitement, to the nerves, to the laughter… every second was real, and every photo tells that story.

What made it even better? Having his family and friends there, celebrating alongside him. Those are the moments you can’t stage the proud smiles, the jokes, the “you’ve made it” kind of energy.

This is why I love what I do. It’s not just about the photos… it’s about capturing a moment that will never come again.

Behind the scenes of a family shoot that felt like a stormy-sky fairytale.
Eight people, three generations, and one massive fallen tree that decided to moonlight as a throne.

While the veld swayed in the wind and the storm crept closer, they gathered together — parents, grandparents, an uncle, and a little one who stole the show without even trying. Every time they settled into place, someone cracked a joke, someone else laughed, and the whole group lit up like the sky wasn’t threatening to open at any second.

There’s something real here — the kind of togetherness you can’t stage. Just a family leaning into each other, smiling through the wild grass, making the moment theirs.

And honestly? Shoots like this… they’re the reason I keep picking up my camera.
