Same squirrel, different moods.
I played around with editing styles on these — some darker, some softer, a few with totally different tones. The colors are all over the place, and that’s okay. Time spent 1.5 hours all in ground up edits so a touch over ten minutes per image.

That’s what I love about wildlife photography — it doesn’t have to be perfect or match from shot to shot. Each one can stand on its own. It’s about how you see it, not how it “should” look.

There’s freedom in creating, and that’s where the fun is. As for this set I can’t pic a favourite so I’m sure I’ll dive right back in and push harder on a few of these as soon as I hit post here. Catch those ones in the stories.

He met my lens like he already knew me—
eyes steady, locked in, no flinch, no fear.
That velvet crown framed a quiet kind of power,
the kind that doesn’t roar… it simply is.

You can almost feel the air between us pause,
his breath hanging in the hush of the boreal morning.
A young whitetail buck, still growing into his crown,
but already wearing the calm of a king.

There’s something about that stare—
the way it cuts through the noise,
reminding you that wild doesn’t need to run
to be untamed.

Every once in a while, something reminds you just how incredible nature really is.
I’ve seen my fair share of Great Greys over the years, but Great Horned Owls? Maybe two in the last five or six. They’re such elusive birds, always blending into the forest like they were never there at all.

This one showed up just behind my house here in the County of Northern Lights on September 29th. I was lucky enough to spot it — and for once, actually had my settings right.

There’s something special about moments like that… quiet, close to home, and just pure magic.

Different moods, kinda.

It’s crazy how a small shift in light or tone can completely change the story a photo tells. Sometimes you lean into the darkness and mystery… other times you chase that last bit of golden light.

Which version of this great grey speaks to you most?
