abandoned northern command centre for gas and telecommunications 📠

not a lot of information on this building other than it is severely fire damaged on a majority of the bottom floor.

decommissioned power station and turbine hall 🔋🔌

situated on the river mersey, the station was named after a nearby 18th century ferry crossing and inn.

the power station was a major 1,989 MW coal-fired station operating from 1971 - March 2020. SSE Thermal closed the plant on March 31, 2020, following nearly 50 years of service and power to nearby homes.

the brunswick tunnel 🪖

the 400 yard long tunnel was originally built for the york and north midland railway to serve the first harrogate station, known as brunswick station

during world war II, the disused tunnel was converted into an air raid shelter, but was abandoned during 1943 and soon sealed not long after. most of the evidence of the shelter was removed in the 1960s during road improvements

good bit of british history hidden away in a small yorkshire town, definitely worth a visit if you don’t mind getting dirty

middlesbrough transporter bridge 🏗️

this bridge spans the river tees and connects the towns of middlesbrough and port clarence, it was made as a unique crossing to get to and from opposite sides of the river

the bridge with steel towers at either end spans a 200 feet long between the towers and the overall height of the structure is 225 feet high

the bridge was temporarily closed in 2019 for months due to maintenance work. in 2020 it was reopened to the public but now operates as a heritage site rather than a transportation route
