It’s been a long time coming but after settling into our new acreage property in WA am feeling those creative juices flowing.
We have a lot of these pesky but beautiful 28 Parrots on our property so thought it fitting to start with them.
I will be having our spa house converted to an art studio so no painting until then 😅

Just a few things that I noted after comparing what I have done to the reference photo, taken by me in Indonesia 😊🎨
Hornbill:
Wreath:
- creases
- fix colours & texture
Top casque
- adjust colour
- Add texture, threads bits.
Beak:
- more texture
- Darks & lights
Left beak diagonals:
- richer colour
- Adjust colour
- Lined lights
Eye:
- start layers
Neck feathers:
- Refine shapes & lights/dark
- Highlights
- Connection to wreath
- Whisky feathers on left
Shoulder Feathers:
- Start
- Do monotone dark & light blue grey then glaze some purple, blue & green onto a few of the lighter (see photo)
Background:
- area on top of casque & feathers
- Darks & lights

Abstract Play series
Getting back in the studio was challenging but I finally did it & had a wonderful time just playing with colour, line & mark-making ❤️
I created 5 abstract pieces on Multimedia Artboard 11” x 14”. I did my usual mixed media approach and used a combination of acrylics, pastel cubes, Liquitex paint pens, acrylic spray paint, Sakura Paint markers & Posca Pens.
