When I was a kid, I would check out the encyclopedia from the school library that had every single species of fish known to man. Since I thought I had better record them (I didn't have a copier), I would rewrite every species of fish (both the scientific name and the common name.) I was especially fascinated with the vibrant patterns displayed by tropical fish.
I would write:
Lagoon Triggerfish
Rhinecanthus aculeatus
There are a lot of fish in the sea. Literally.
It took me a long time, and no, I never finished. The encyclopedia was pretty thick.
I got to thinking about this because I now make it a priority to see these creatures in real life from time to time, and not just on a page in a book. Seeing tropical fish has me feeling like a kid every time.
There's an entire world beneath us, and in this particular image, I wanted to bring the worlds together to show how close this world is to us.
And it also makes me smile with kid-like fascination.

I owe you immense gratitude, and it's long overdue that I say to you: Thank You.
You see, I think back to all those little moments when I was a kid growing up that I had one desire---and that was to create.
It was to conjure ideas.
It was to experiment.
It was to invent.
It took me about 35 years to understand that the most efficient and fastest way of pushing out ideas that came to me was to create artwork...for a living.
Creating art and imagery is a way for me to spew ideas carelessly, knowing that some of them will fail, and others will resonate. It is a method to seize an idea that might have an ounce of value so that it can be built upon every day.
Exercising on the idea machine has become a crucial component in my life, and I understand every day that it would not be possible without you.
Thanks for lending me your eyes to share my creations with you.
Thanks for taking action and purchasing my creations when something moves you.
I will always be grateful for you.

I hope this is a welcome moment of peace among all of the noise lately.
