Bob McTavish, aged 80, has been mowing foam for 60 years. Born in 1944 in Mackay, Queensland, he began surfing on a 16-foot plywood paddle board at age 12. Ditching textbooks for shaping tools, Bob dropped out of school at 15 and made his way to Sydney to take a job as a sander at Scott Dillon’s Brookvale factory where he was shaping
surfboards within six months.
Inventive, quirky and energetic, he holds a pivotal role in the Shortboard Revolution that ignited during the late 1960s. Along with California-born filmmaker and kneeboarder George Greenough and Australian surf giant Nat Young, Bob is credited for ushering in a new era of surfboard design. ▫️From the pages of Life Around The Sea

The turning point in my photography journey began as an accident. I was watching the ocean when a misstep led to a broken leg and a night in the hospital.
During that stillness, I read about wildlife photographers and the adversity behind their images. Quietly, it reshaped how I approach photography. The ocean itself hasn’t changed - but how I wait, watch, and frame it has.

This one was a proper mission ▫️
briefed a black + green surf image — and we ended up shooting almost in the dark.

Big teamwork moment with surfer and holding the remote flash. A bit of timing, a bit of luck… and somehow it all came together.
