Happy first of Autumn 🍂… may the 2026 weather excitement begin!! 💕☃️❄️

❄️📈WOW - snow is intensifying at Mt Hutt currently! 10cm+ and counting this evening.

🌬Wintry conditions will linger until Tuesday evening about northern parts of the region.

🍂After one of the coldest summers since the 90's, autumn 2026 is off to a very cold, wet and snowy start.

How beautiful the day turned out to be!

Expecting some crunchy snow tomorrow morning after a cold night and patches of ice likely in the wet spots to be cautious of.

Looks like good weather though overall for tomorrow … 💕

Always exercise great caution with incoming snow forecasts. Hopefully a clearer or someone comes to assist these people soon ... 😳.

At a minimum you want sleeping bags in your car should the worst happen.

Better yet stop sooner or don’t travel when these forecasts are out. The snow can come in quick as it has today. ❄️

⚠️ Heavy snow risks from mid afternoon to Tuesday morning ❄️

❄️ Over the past few days, we have seen some pretty good consistency in the models for heavy snow risks above 400 to 800m, with the most significant being above 700 to 800m.

There is a risk it may drop to 300m for time with lesser amounts.

❄️ Snow does look likely for all towns across the Mackenzie from tonight, depending on warm advection and timing.

❄️ Lake Tekapo and Mount Cook look to see the most significant with the potential of seeing 15 to 30cm of snow from this system, if not more, especially Mount Cook.

📸 ❄️ Send through your weather reports through out today where you are with any photos and videos.

⚠️ ❄️ Travel plans? Travel should be planned ahead and if you’re looking at travelling over the Lindis Pass this afternoon, it’s best to travel early the better with snow risks to develop in the afternoon, especially mid afternoon.

⚠️❄️ SH8 Twizel to Fairlie, including SH80

Across the main network of the Mackenzie have the risk of seeing some disruptions with this system, especially late tonight and into Tuesday morning.
