On a macro level, it’s heartbreaking that these elephants have been separated from their herd. Many of them are here because of poaching, drought, or human conflict, and the road back to rewilding through the work of the Sheldrick Trust is long and complicated.

But on a micro level, if you’ve never seen a baby elephant being hand fed milk from a giant bottle while sprinting toward its keeper with oversized ears flapping around, it’s pretty hard not to smile a little bit.

Also, note to self: never stand between a baby elephant and feeding time. I almost got trampled trying to get into position to capture these shots.

I’ve lived in Vietnam for 20 years now and people often ask me what’s changed.

Honestly, this photo pretty much sums it up.

A fruit vendor still carefully lays out beautiful produce in traditional woven baskets on the street… but now she’ll also happily accept your bank transfer via QR code 😄

Some things change. Some things stay exactly the same. And somehow Vietnam manages to make both work perfectly together.

Thật ra bức ảnh này đã trả lời tất cả.

Một cô bán trái cây vẫn bày những loại hoa quả đầy màu sắc trong những chiếc thúng truyền thống bên lề đường… nhưng giờ cô cũng vui vẻ nhận chuyển khoản bằng mã QR 😄

Có những thứ thay đổi. Có những thứ vẫn y nguyên. Và Việt Nam somehow luôn làm cho cả hai hòa hợp một cách rất tự nhiên.
