When Insta360 reached out to me about using and reviewing the Ace Pro 2, I was skeptical about how good an action camera could really be for photography, especially for street and documentary work.
I took the time to test it properly, so this review is based on real use, not a one week hands on. As always, this is an honest opinion.
First, the RAW files :
That was the first thing that surprised me when I got it in my hands. I’ve used other action cameras before, and I was worried about final image quality. Truth is, it didn’t disappoint at all. Great color contrast, well preserved information, and enough room to crop without losing quality. It’s impressive that something this small can deliver files like this. One small detail is the delay between shooting RAW and processing. For some people, waiting a few seconds between shots could be annoying. For me, it’s not a big deal, but it’s worth mentioning.
Second, the size and design:
It’s beautiful, feels premium in hand, and clearly stands out from other action cameras. With the Explorer Kit, it doesn’t feel like a tiny gadget anymore, but like a proper photographic tool.
Finally, the video:
I didn’t include video in this reel, but I tested it and it’s definitely worth highlighting. The log profile looks great, although I miss having a native CST color profile in DaVinci Resolve. Insta360 provides a Rec.709 conversion preset, which works fine, but it doesn’t feel quite the same. That said, stabilization and overall performance are excellent.
In the end, we’re talking about a fully capable action camera. If you’re thinking about getting one, the Ace Pro 2 won’t disappoint. My hands on experience was genuinely great. It feels like a real camera, while still being an action camera you can take into any situation.
