"A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself." - Joseph Campbell.
The world as we know it is forever changed. Businesses closed, people shut-in and locked away, the social public existence that we have lived by nearly gone. Life is not easy, going out is difficult, staying in is tiring. Politics, law, religion, corruption, education, medical.... all at war in this moment.
Some say the world is healing, that this is a deserved punishment for what we the human race have done to our planet. Some say it is a hoax, a conspiracy, a dramatized incident that's been blown way out of proportion.
Many talk of upping hygiene, building awareness, wearing masks, using sanitizer, washing hands frequently, don't go out, stay-in, don't see friends, don't see family, support our medical workers, support those still open, close non-essential businesses, support retail/grocers, don't nag on employed folks for still working, work from home, freeze rent, stay safe... the list goes on and on - much of it positive, but also a negativeness nestled inside.
Life is not easy... living is not easy... staying in is not easy. Tensions are high, anger and frustration are everywhere.
Despite all of this, the good and the bad, there's one thing that can get us through this. That we can rely on to get us through our day-to-day life, through the boredom, the frustration, the pain, the drama, the negligence, and negativity.
We have each other.
We have our friends, our family, and our loved ones. We have those we rely on, those we support, and those we can go to in times of need. There are many avenues of contact in this modern world. And with this we have ways to cope, to socialize, to be entertained... we have ways that let us continue life without the need to hide away into seclusion and anxiety. We have the ability to reach out, but also to reach in.
Everyone, everywhere, in some way has or will suffer during this. They will feel pain, they will feel frustration, they will feel boredom, they will feel solitude.
So reach out, send messages, post online, play video games, have video chats, watch youtube, check-in, drive-by... just continue to LIVE your life.
In this time of crisis be the hero we need by being the hero you need.
