Storm Chase on May 17 in Nebraska with while we did see a couple tornadoes, they weren't particularly photogenic from our positioning as the storm traveled north east. However the sunset, rainbow, and lightning were plentiful during our drive back as we called thr chase.

This is not something you see often up north. If you saw a weird light pillar like this last night, a Chinese rocket dumped its propellant. It then freezes because it's high up in the atmosphere and reflects back to us. This is because the sunlight is hitting all the small ice crystals and reflecting it back to us.

THURSDAY: Hailers in central Kansas
FRIDAY: Late night severe weather in red KS to IA
SATURDAY: Oklahoma dry line, supercells and tornadoes possible Oklahoma to Iowa
SUNDAY: This sequence peaks with another southern Plains to Upper Midwest large warm sector

Anatomy of a Supercell seen from under the Anvil. The first image is an annotated view of a classic supercell. The second image is a tornado that occurred from this storm. The third is a radar screenshot of the same supercell within an hour of the photos. This was seen rth Dakota on 27 June 2025.
