During the weekend of Hurricane Helene, I had a wedding with Caroline & Paul at Hawkesdene in Andrews, NC in southwest North Carolina. I had to get past Asheville to get there. For the first time, I really thought I was going to miss a wedding.

It took over 13 stressful hours to get there from Winston-Salem, but somehow I made it just a few minutes after the ceremony had started.

The eye of Helene went right over Andrews, so they just had rain, but no phone service. No one was really aware of the extent of devastation that was around us.

I'm sensitive to that day, as all the days for NC since. And at the same time, taking a moment to see the beuaty that hopefully helps people try to push forward.
